Enlightened
Last week, my son got hired at a metallurgical laboratory. I think I'm more excited than he is. He's working part time while he attends junior college, but he's showing genuine interest in it. He just started feeling comfortable enough to ask questions regarding what they are actually doing. He also took some pictures of some of the test equipment.
His current responsibilities are data recording (temperature, reading indicators, time and others), but in time he will be trained to set up actual tests. He remembered a few of their customers which include NASA, Pratt & Whitney and General Electric. I'm fascinated by what he has told me so far. They have approximately 400 testing machines, with over half of them currently running tests. The temperatures he has recorded have ranged from 1100-2200 degrees F. Some of the tests have been running for 10 years! He said that they have a machine shop there, but he was told it is strictly off limits. I wonder why... I kinda wish it was me working there instead of him... I will ask him to ask his boss if it's OK for me to post some of the pictures. Hopefully, he can give me a tour sometime...
