Well, I just got done my ultimate 6P build(almost). I did a few simple modifications that anyone could do to, to turn my 6P into a cutting edge, tactical, awesome looking light!

The introduction of the 6PL is what got me turned back onto the wonderful 6P platform. The light is a classic design, for good reason as it's form factor just "feels" great in hand. Obviously, the first thing I wanted was MORE light. Well, this is where the "almost" comes into play. I wanted to get a Malkoff M60 for it, but since those are so hard to find I settled on a Q5 drop-in from lighthound that is driven at 750ma. This drop-in is still plenty bright(around 160 lumens out the front according to my tests) and has great tint, but it does have the dreaded "cree ring" in the beam. As soon as I can find a Malkoff, my light will be complete :grin2:

As for the rest of the light, I had to change a few things to my tastes. I started with a Leef McClicky and Leef grip, and added the stainless steel head/bezel from lighthound. To finish the head off, I dropped in a UCL lens as well. Two of AW RCR123's power the beast for about 1hr. of regulated, "guilt-free" runtime. Last but not least, I took sandpaper to the knurling on the body and tailcap. I sanded away some of the anodizing to expose the raw aluminum so it would match the SS head.....I think it came out great! Here are some pics!

I am not the best at taking photos, but these were the best I could do  Opinions encouraged!! Oh, and if anyone has a spare M60 drop-in to contribute to my build, I would greatly appreciate it! :D

Good ole' Wolf 7.62x39 HP... delicious... ahhem.

I have a setup similar to yours with McClicky and LeefGrip, with a BOG Q5 drop -in. It works wonders. I don't think I'll be able to pull off a crenulated bezel, in regards that it would: A) shred my pants to little bits and B) not be the same color pattern

Can't beat the Wolf for the price....it's my "plinking" ammo of choice :)

And your light was what inspired me to make this build! I addressed the color issue by sanding the anodizing away, and it improved the overall look quite a bit in my eyes....and I try to keep the light out of my pants pockets :sssh:

If the bezel is steel, you could have sprayed on either black BBQ paint, or black firearm finishing spray (a la Duracoat) and had it match. I think I will duracoat my 6P once it gets trashed around a lot more.

Blah, who am I kidding, chicks dig the scars.

If you want to get Duracoat, please find a local Sherwin Williams Automotive dealer and get Polane-T. Polane-T *is* Duracoat. Lauer just repackages it and charges a boatload more money for it.

And I'm about ready to do the same thing soon with one 6P that I've been abusing for a long time now. It's currently rattle canned to death.

But then - if I do Polane-T it, it doesn't have that battle hardened look to it. Right now, it's got this blotchy paint job of being sprayed with whatever black spray paint I had around at that time, whether it was matte black, flat black, or gloss.

And the thinner that Lauer sells... I'm assuming Sherwin Williams makes that too, eh? Still can be used in an airbrushed form?

I learned something new today... hmmph.

I thought about painting my head black to match, but I like it bare so I can show off the stainless steel :) So I took another approach...you guys don't like it?? :(

Same. Along with the hardener. And yes, it's airbrushable.

Just Google "Polane-T Duracoat" and read the results. You gotta hand it to Lauer - they have one heck of a thing going.

One side of me loves it. The other (ex-LEO instructor) side of me says it's too shiny.

However, I do like how you got the brushed texture - how'd you get it so smooth? Did you use one of those fiberglass things to do that with? Or is it 100% sandpaper?

Yeah I recently discovered how cool the Surefire Classic platform is. I've got Leef grips on both my 6Ps. I didn't pull the trigger on the Leef McClicky yet, but I may eventually (it's a price thing and I'm cheap). I did however mod a couple of Solarforce reverse clicky tailcaps with actual McClicky switches...doesn't tailstand, but neither does the actual Surefire Z59 tailcap either. I've got the black version of that head with stainless steel strike bezel...keeps the flashlight mostly black with strike bezel as a silver accent.

One question though, how does the lens come out on these heads? I haven't tried to remove any of the lenses on my Surefires.

Great looking light! Where do you find the Leef McClicky and Leef grip from anyway?

Take off the ring and pushed the lens from the inside and it'll come out, do you know if there is a retaining ring for it? It just uses a gasket right now, and that doesn't really work, also UCL lens are just plain too thick to put in there.

The 6p's are such a great platform, I agree, the only problem is that it just keeps getting longer...with the head (when you put in a drop-in) and then with the solarforce clicky...and then I plan on adding a lanyard ring for some tritium.

What holsters do you guys usually use with these?

Thanks for sharing :)

Looks REALLY good!

I found the bezel at lighthound, but it says that they are out of stock. Do they stock this regularly?

Ah...ok, sounds simple enough. I saw a link somewhere here about a place that sells all kinds of O-rings, but I can't remember where that was. Yeah, the Solarforce tailcap does add a small bit of extra length to the flashlight. You could go with a Surefire Z59 (the one that comes with the 6P Defender) to keep the length the same...or of course the Leef McClicky. I stick the flashlight with strike bezel in my pocket all the time and I've never encountered clothes shredding issues...I can see it happen if you're wearing tight clothes though...so that's where having a holster comes in handy. I haven't looked into holsters yet though, but is on my "to do" list.
