Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy my first handheld light canon and have pretty much settled on the N30. However I have a few questions for those of you who have used the light. I'm not too familiar with HID lights (yet!) so here it goes:

1) Where can I buy replacement lamps? (will big home stores or automotive stores have these puppies?)

2)Will changing the lamp be like pulling teeth on the N30 or is it no problem? (Is it as simple as pulling the old out and throwing in the new like halogen?)

3)I know the N30 uses a proprietary NiMH batt. so I am curious about what kind of overall lifespan it will have. (will I need to buy a new batt in a year or 10 years?)

I apologise if any of this has already been discussed. I have a friend who bought a $12 "15 million cp" halogen light (not a Thor) and thinks that it is the brightest light on the planet. I want to show him that we cpfers know what we're talking about! Thanks and Happy Holidays All!

Hi theforester,

The N30's are only available from Batteryjunction and I have spoken with Matt about carrying spare bulbs. HID bulbs do last quite a while so you should not have any problems.

Charging is very easy. The battery packs can be charged in or out of the light. This is nice because you can have multiple packs and exchange them very fast.

The NiMH battery pack should last as long as the normal high quality NiMH rechargeables.

The N30 puts out more total light then a 15 MCP Thor. However, If you friend really has a 15 MCP Thor as opposed to a 10 MCP Thor, the 15 MCP Thor will out throw the N30.

The N30 will out throw a 10 MCP Thor and looks tiny compared to either.

Thanks mtbkndad, much appreciated. I guess I had the same concerns paulr mentioned back in April about wishing proprietary batteries would last at least 5-10 years. Theoretically how long should high quality NiMH batts last anyway!? I suppose that regardless of battery life it is worth it when all aspects of the light are weighed together. Now all I have to do is get some money! :sigh:

That very much depends on the usage: NiMh needs to be kept alive! They have a quite high self-discharge rate. You must charge-cycle them every few months to keep them in shape..

Also: I don't know the characteristics of the system, but multiple-cell NiMh-packs may not be discharged under certain voltages! Some cells may experience negative charge during operation at low voltages: :VERY BAD !! THIS WILL KILL THEM !!

My guess is: With keeping that in mind, they can last 2-4 years..

Li-Ion's are better when there are longer periods of "sleep" between usages..

Regards,

Ra.

Is this some kind of joke?

The only parts that would be a joke are the run time and the 3 kilometer illumination distance.
The Li-Ion battery back will give up to 100 minutes, usually in the 90 minute range. So two hours is a joke unless they are using larger capacity cells at this point. The L35 and N30 prototypes that I have utilize exactly the same tooling and therefore the Li-Ion pack can go in either light. The L35 was going to have more then just a Li-Ion pack as improvements.
Regarding illumination, expect around 300+ yards of quality illumination in a dark area. I was lighting a tower 545 yards away on Friday night with my L35, but the tower is beige and even though the bushes around the tower were lit, the light was not bright enough to be real useable without binoculars.

By the way, with a Li-Ion pack the Light only weighs 3 lb 1 oz. Now that is light for a 35 watt HID.

Is this some kind of joke?

I was surfing looking for something else and saw the light yesterday so I posted it.
Not sure how that could be considered a joke...

Anyway I ordered a sample light from them for $200 with $35 EMS shipping.

They offered me to be their "American Distributer" but I'm not interested...

"you can become our American distributors"

Not sure if they were joking about that -

We shall see about the light!

I have owned a N30 and think its a great light for the money. I have used it quite a bit underground - its not water resistant but has surprisingly survived even being banged around.

You might not "wow" your friend but you will "wow" yourself with just how useful this light is for all sorts of jobs - having such a bright small light is really handy!

I looked at that chinese site and got a real kick out of this. I also have this Amondotech 3152 and never knew there was a Chinesediving light version ! The holes in the case must be magic - the light blows out so much hot air it becomes waterproof if you "prevent explosion"?!?!?! :ohgeez:

All BS aside

Bank Transfer has been engaged as the Chinese factory waits on no one without the, at the ready funds, to pay for the good or service in an orderly manor. Any mistakes or hick-ups will cause a change in plan and a moving on from the initial supplier of capital to the new supplier of capital... Old news is replaced with new news...($"s)

Lips,

I do believe you are not actually dealing with the manufacturer, but an Asian customer of the manufacturer.
Either way you should be getting a N30 with a Li-Ion pack. I will be curious to see if it comes to you with a 4200K bulb. The manufacturer puts different K bulbs in to suit their customers specs.
I am also not thrilled with the loose and overstated specs they are listing.
See what kind of warranty they are offering?
While the manufacturer does back their products, they do not force their customers to do the same.

When the time is right I can give all of the details of the N30 L35 saga.

And I'll be all ears. When you say that the N30 comes with a Li-Ion pack, does that make it the L35 without the waterproof elements?

Yes I believe they are a distributor. I did ask for 4200k bulb so we'll see.

I don't know anything about this light so I could send it to you for your analysis to see what they have done to this model if you like; after I play with it for a couple of days of course :grin2:

I would be glad to look at it and then send it back when I am done.
I will email the manufacturer and find out the details of what this company is getting.
