My GF has a SureFire e1e, and I want to get her something brighter with a longer lasting lamp, but about the same size. For purse carry, with enough lumens to temporarily stun someone if necessary. Brightness a higher priority than runtime. Forward-clicky tailswitch for quick action. Just 2 modes, for simplicity. 1x123 for size and power. Price... well, not too much more than $60

I was thinking about the EagleTac P10C https://www.eagletac-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=103&products_id=608 but nearly EVERYTHING appears to be sold out. What's going on with them?

What would be similar to, or better than, the EagleTac? I'm afraid a light with too many modes will end up NOT in the correct mode (super-brightest) when she needs it the most.

EagleTac P10C is a great choice. I just gave one to my wife about 15 minutes ago!!She'll probably never use it :(
The site you are looking at is no longer a dealer for EagleTac. You can go to their website and see the list of active dealers.
I also have a T10C that I keep around just because!

I would get her this one Quark MiNi 123. I gave my GF a few lights before to carry with her, she never uses them simply because they are too big. I am planning to get her the Quark in hope that the size of it won't turn her off. It's small enough to attach to her keychain or leave in her purse. Its also bright enough to stun a threat and give her enough time to do what she needs to do.

But a Quark (non Mini) would be better since it has the tail switch. I suggest the tactical model for 2 easy to access modes. I have the AA Quark tactical and on 14500 it's very similar to the Quark 123 Tactical. Great light and under your budget Duglite.

I guess.. But I don't think my gf cares.. She doesnt really want to carry anything unless it fits in her bag unnoticed. I guess it depends on what she is willing to carry. It definitely works though. One time I was walking around outside having a smoke when a hooded guy walked towards me really fast. I was holding my iphone listening to music. I quickly took out my 6p and blasted it at him. He ran away. Im guessing he was trying to steal my iPhone.

Also with the tactical, you can have both modes set to high, so even if the head slides or moves (as it might in a purse), it will still be set on max. They are quick to program when you want less light.

Man, get a Fenix PD20! Not the new plus model but the standard PD20, its brighter than everything I have tested it against including the new Quarks, Nitcore, any other single 123 light I have tried and there have been at least 15 of them...It is THE BEST bang for the buck light, you wont be dissapointed. The only singe 123 light I have thats brighter is a $150 custom built on a SF e series body.Iam telling you, its brighter than the Eagtac, brighter than any of the single cell Quarks, brighter than any single cell SF and most if not all of their two cell 123 lights too. Get one you will like it, and its only like $45. The Tactical strobe on the PD20 works, we tried it several times at night with my cop buddies, with this thing in your eyes at night you can NOT tell if the light user is moving away from you or coming towards you, great for backing away from a bad situation. Single 123 lights are my favorite platform, I have had over 50 lights in this size range, the PD20 is it. The only problem is the damn switch is a reverse clicky and you can not run the LiIon 4.2 volt rechargable batteries in it. Not a big deal but no momentary, Iam working on trying to mod a Quark forward clicky into the PD20, hopefully it will work.
Matt

Edit to add, if you get it and dont like it send it to me and I will pay you what you paid for it.

Surefire L1 :naughty:
+0.5 (If you can wait for the upcoming LX1 for higher output)

The L1 has the best UI (user interface) ever - I cannot understate the importance of how intuitive its operation needs to be for non-flashaholics:
  • press the 'momentary' for low
  • press harder for high (which essentially becomes: 'mash' for high anytime it's needed)
as well as
  • Twist tailcap for low (constant-on)
  • twist further for high

The L1 is big and heavy, not that bright and I hate the UI.It might be easy but its not what I want or carry...Just my .02 :~)

Jetbeam Jet II Pro IBS, comes with a forward clicky, you can programme all 3 modes to max or have it come on in the fastest strobe and then max or program it to whatever configuration works for your needs.

225 lumens and it runs on RCR123s as well. Seeing as how runtime isnt a factor for you, this might be the light that you are looking for.

Well, output is why I specifically cited the upcoming LX1. Anyway, it most definitely isn't a perfect match for the posted requirements (I did write only +0.5, after all), but since DR mentioned it in an earlier post I at least wanted to cite its main strength.

Has anybody watched how non-flashaholics actually use multimode lights? They most often just use the first mode that comes on, and have no interest in mode switching - kudos to the folks here who cite having 'max' on all the modes for programmable lights for this application.

The Jetbeam II Pro IBS is a little brighter then the PD20 but I found its just too big and the UI was terrible, let someone else use it and be ready to reprogram it back to what yo like. It also would go to another program to easily, drove me nuts.

Its a decent light, it is bright but the size of the head and length I just didn't consider it the same class size. Its also more money....Did I mention the UI, its frustrating to say the least, so was the instruction manual!

Again to each his own, this was just what I thought and why I didnt keep the Jetbeam.

The SureFire E1b Backup is your best option.

I love my RC-A4 Q5 that I got from shiningbeam. The build quality is awesome and its very bright. I got the two mode, but NEVER use medium, only high. I'm guessing that the single mode would be great for your wife's purse, plus it is very cool looking

Not for his price limit it's not.

My first thought when he said "face blaster" was the E1B. 2 modes with the brightest always being the first option. Perfect for defense.

Due to the cost limitations, use her existing E1E and pickup an E1B head.. instant faceblaster.

I've seen them for sale here on the CPFM and on that auction site that rhymes with "zeepay". I picked up an E1B head there for $60 shipped.
