I am looking for a flashlight to illuminate a spot on a wall with a diameter of 2 or 3 feet. The wall would be between 20 or 30 feet away.
-- My first question: is an led flashlight more suitable to this application or is something else?

Battery life needs to be "fairly long", i.e. as long as possible without making the flashlight too heavy to carry. The most ideal would be to have a rechargable flashlight, since this will be for daily use.

For this application, the brighter the better.

Any recommendations of a particular flashlight or flashlight/addition would be welcome.

One final question: I have looked at the terralux TLE-300M. Would this be a good addition to a maglite flashlight to make a suitably bright light?

For runtime, you can't beat LED. Since they're so power efficient, you need less power, meaning smaller/fewer batteries, meaning a smaller and lighter flashlight, for any given level of output + runtime. Assuming that you can get the output you need.

What's your budget? What kind of rechargeables are you planning to use? What's your idea of "small" or "too heavy to carry"?

I only hear good things about the Terralux dropins.

My budget is around $50 - $70. By rechargable, I mean that the flashlight can be plugged in to recharge an internal battery, not that the batteries put into the flashlight are rechargable.

Thank you for your advice.

So your list of criteria is this:

-2~3 foot circle-spot at 30 feet
-Moderate size, loose-pocket carry
-Long run times
-Cradle re-charge capable
-$70 max

No light exists that meet all these criteria. If you had to pick say... two or three of these criteria as the MOST important, which would they be?

The most important criteria:
-$70 max
-Recharge capable
-Bright
-Doesn't have to be loose-pocket carry, can be much bigger than that, just capable of being picked up.

Thank you.
