Hello all, I'm a first time poster, long time reader. Tons of helpful information here, thanks. I need help choosing my next light. I currently carry a Surefire E2E with a KL1 head. The two lights I'm looking at are the Surefire L1 LumaMax and the Novatac EDC 120P. Any suggestions on which is a better EDC light? or which is a better quality? I don't know much about the Novatac brand other than what their website says.
Thanks
Travis

Have you looked at other brands too?

Quality wise, Novatac seems to have slipped but I don't know how it compares to Surefire after the slip in quality.

What output are you looking for?
Runtime?
Beampattern?
Size?
Battery?

:welcome:

I'm looking for a flashlight that has at least two light outputs. On the low I would like it to be useable for close up work (like inside a computer) and on high, would like it to throw as much possible. I don't care about runtime and both only use one battery. I think the Novatac might be a little too small to feel comfortable. I'm also looking at the HDS RA Clickie but think it might be out of my price range nor does it look like it has a clip, which is a must.

You can also check the Jetbeam Jet III M, and Nitecore Extreme for 2 mode lights with a user programmable mode.

More throw usually mean narrower beam and larger reflector. Narrower beam is not that good for close up work though.

How much throw you would you like on high output? (realistically, maybe 100 yards would be max for these sized lights unless you don't mind a larger reflector)

How will you be carrying the light?

Not sure on the throw on the Novatac, but the L1 on high has awesome throw...for it's size anyway, and a nice UI...and the sturdy clip is great for attaching it to a ball cap for working under the hood of yer car or PC.
