Hey guys, im about to order a LD01 and i've heard the best battery to use on them are 10440's. Now what exactly are 10440's? Can these be bought locally or only online? I know this must be a very basic question and I tried searching. Theres hundreds of threads about 10440's but none of them explain what they are since im guessing most people here already know what they are... Thanks in advanced

They are lithium ion batteries. They are the same size as AAA cells, 10 mm diameter x 44 mm length, but they have higher voltages. They are rechargable and need special li-ion cell chargers. Most 10440s are unprotected li-ion cells, make sure to do some research on li-ion cells before starting to use them. There are some unique potential dangers associated with their misuse that NiMh and NiCad rechargables don't have.

Hi, and welcome to CPF!

You know that saying, "if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it"? Well there could be a similar saying, "if you need to ask what a 10440 is, you don't want to be buying one" :)

OK, being serious, a 10440 is a lithium ion rechargeable cell that gives approximately 3.7 V in the size of an AAA cell. It is not a normal consumer battery and has to be bought on-line. It needs a special charger that has to be bought too, and there is a bunch to learn about where to buy the best quality batteries and how to charge them and use them successfully without damaging them.

I'd suggest you start out with regular alkaline or NiMH AAA cells and stick around here to learn more about the care and feeding of lithium ion cells before you dive in. There are some pitfalls for the unwary and even some dangers if things go wrong.

I have a few 10440 cells and rarely use them because they're not protected. I've found that the Energizer Lithium AAA cells better suite my needs in my lights.
