The Streamlight Stinger is one of the most widely used law enforcement flashlights. It's output is pretty good, runs for about an hour, charges in a cradle, and it's pretty rugged and reliable. My biggest gripe is the fact that it runs on weak NiCd Sub-C's. I've contemplated hacking a factory battery pack and shoving high cap sub-c's. That would be great if you appreciate the 125 lumens that the 3.6volts puts out. I prefer brighter!

3 sub C's comes out to about 126mm in length. 2 AW Li Ions comes out to 107mm packing 7.4v and 3300mAh's. All you need to do is add a little conductive spacer or stack of washers to make up the difference. I'm not familiar with the bulb in a stinger, but I'm sure there are options out there for more output. The ultrastinger is a 6v bulb at close to 300lm, but I don't know if it can handle 8.4v of the 2 li ions off the charger. Would a Carley 1499 fit? It only puts out about 200lm though. I don't know my bulbs very well, but I'm sure there are options out there.

The other thing you would need to do is to wire up a LiIon charger to the cradle. You'd need to "gut out" the stock charger and make sure that there isn't any kind of resistor in the stinger's body like the MagCharger has.

Anyway... what do you guys think?

Doh!!! All the awesome stuff that you made closed before I even joined CPF and became a flashaholic!!!
