I had just wanted to throw this out there since i read a lot of these forums and haven't seen any Nichia love besides the 5mm's. :poke:

Of course i love the rebel and Cree so do not get me wrong but these all have their strong points. The reason being that i have a Dorcy Cyberlight rechargeable work light which is super bright and only cost 40bucks at sears.
This thing rocks as far as pure white light and the only thing wrong with it is the batteries in it, which were 2400mahx4 AA in heat shrink. They only allowed the light to be on for 3hrs and now it goes for 5 so I am very happy, with 4x2600mah Tenergy AA's.:p

Anyways I am getting to the light engine under the hood, which is the Nichia smd k1'sx4 so 400 plus lumen. They are the whitest leds i own and have raised interest as far as being the only Nichia high flux main stream. If i could find these for cheap and not to mention easy it would be cool. Then.... I have found the next best thing as I have a Maglite upgrade and on it has the Nichia k1's now and has 800 lumen off of 3v-9v so there is potential for modders on here for lithiums and stuff. I am going to be running 6v and will do a review on here to show if its potential.

So please let me know what you think about it and maybe start up a Nichia power led gang:tinfoil:. Jupiters, regals and the code name for these i guess is the best one is the raijin. If you have any mods with Nichia throw it on here.

Thanks

Well, it's a fact there are countless working Maglites out there. Most people shelled out the "extra" bucks because they were well constructed, and they're STILL well constructed.

So, you wanna do a review ? Excellent, I can't wait. I have several Mags and rather than throw them away or (worse yet) tolerate the candle light, I'd like to upgrade. Malkoff seems like a good alternative, but getting one is like finding hen's teeth.

I look forward to your review. Thanks

Joe:popcorn:

i have one drop in like that, pbly not nichia, looks very similar, but not 100% match, but very bright as well. 36 leds
pure flood, great area light, but has limited throw.

I had received the work light module today and let me say that this thing is a canon. I had ordered this for my dads work light which is a Ryobi 18v lithium and the bulb slid right into place and worked awesome. I will be doing pictures tomorrow as i have run out of time today but just to say estimates it easily makes 400lumens and each gs k1 led is driven to max brightness times 48, so you can only imagine. I had turned it on during daylight and let me tell you that the Arizona sun is no joke and the light still blinded me.:D I can not wait for the Maglite module as it should be in next week on Monday. I can not wait as this thing is ridiculous. I will post a review with pictures and the current brightest light i own is a my icon rogue 2aa @ 100lumens and also my xl100 @ 85lumens. Ill keep it simple and interesting. Thanks for following as it will not disappoint.

You have my undivided attention. Thank you for your efforts.

You have my son's attention, too. I made extra popcorn, eh?

I am here back to report, what was a success and let me tell you this thing rocks!!!:D

First let me get to the details as to give you an idea of what it is and what the power plant is.

Light Engine: 8-18v 48LED Nichia GS K1's
Work Light: 18v Ryobi NiMh Work Light w/ swivel head and standard quick charger.

Then for comparison:
Icon Rogue: 2xAA Black with Cree XR-E led @ 100lumens
Maglite: XL 100 3xAAA with Rebel 090 @ 85 Lumens

The for the camera:
No night exposure when getting the beams but for up close then it was applied. Heck the camera had a hard time as it would only register the icon and xl100. I have a 11MP camera but its set on 3MP to get the photos to upload and not take forever and i don not want to get in trouble again with the mod man...

I am doing this in a completely dark room with no ambient light and a white wall. I live out here on a mountain and if this was outside the 48led module would cause someone to call the cops as they would think i was lost or in trouble. So i am doing this inside and have photos to get your giddys:whistle:.

Here is a picture of the module itself:

http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/8-18v nichia k1 48 led module/IMAG0148.jpg

As you can see this thing is simple and clean with those beautiful GS K1's winking at you.;)

Then here is the worklight i am using with the light on with a side view:

Then here is a top view with the light on::p
http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/8-18v nichia k1 48 led module/IMAG0154.jpg

Then here is the light in action with it by itself(corrected the Icon is in the middle and completely washed out just to show you how intense this light really is) though it looks like its by itself:devil::No night exposure or camera tricks just using point and shoot settings right now. BTW I love the purple/yellow hue being put out as you can see a little of it on the reflection on the tile.
http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/8-18v nichia k1 48 led module/IMAG0147.jpg

Then here is the light with a side by side by side with the XL 100 on the very far left and the Icon Rogue 2AA on the far right: Then the maglite which is almost blueish but supposed to be white but the module proves that its the whitest, WHITE POWER!!! Just wanted to say that even though I am Hispanic and live in Arizona. This light would not have to show its papers but the other two might be in trouble:crackup:.

Then here is the module vs the Icon on the very far right with the led module on the left:As you can see the icon is very warm from the Cree.

Overall impression:
I am very very very very very very happy with this purchase as I did not have to buy anything else beside the module as I had this worklight laying around. The initial investment was 25 bucks with free shipping. I have the 36 led on the way for my Maglite so i cant wait and ill do another review with the two. This thing is crazy bight and does not have to work on 18v and it can vary from 8-18v and will vary in brightness as well but base is 400lumens and at 18v its rated at 800lumens. This thing is running on lower power than a 5watt or 10w incandescent bulb and blows them out of the water. If it was my estimate as i was shinning it in the backyard and it lit up the whole thing and i have no walls just a mountain in the way, this is definitely 800lumens and if not more.

If you have any questions or comments they are welcome, hope you enjoyed this review as it was very fun.lovecpf

Thank You,
Eric Ramirez

Does any of the heat from the LEDs get transferred to a Maglite's body? Lack of heat sinking is a major problem with most LED drop in upgrades for Maglites.

From seeing this design yeah it would contact the body as it would take place of the reflector and then it would be part of the bezel/head assembly then it would screw on when the head is being screwed in. Its not for sure but that's my guesstimate or at least what i have seen from this module. But it does not get hot it just gets warm to the touch. This is a low power consumption upgrade as it doesn't have a high power led to get hot. If you have ever felt a Nichia when driven it does get warm but it requires no heat sinking individually. In this case it has a few fins and that's it and the rest of the body is aluminum. This is designed not to get hot as is and i can testify, maybe 90 degrees but its a hundred during the night in Arizona so i say for elsewhere. It will definitely run a lot cooler when in Alaska:duh2:. Then to give you a hint is that when i put my hand in front of the beam i can fell it a few feet away. Also remind you that if you put this in a Maglite it will kill most of the heat as the Maglite acts as a awesome heat sink. My xl100 was warmer than the module after the test just to give you an idea. Heat is not an issue here its really keeping an eye on it as its going to end up missing or stolen, but who can blame friends and family for having good taste.:twothumbs

Where did you get it from? As it seems hard to find the 5mm led upgrades these days. I guess when we own these 5mm flashlights we can register them with a collector plate just like vintage vehicles:sssh:.

here is a shot of the actual light with comparison shot with my icon rogue 2aa on the right and the maglite on the left. Then the rest are just shots of the setup itself. Hope you enjoy and if you have any questions or comments let me know as ill be glad to answer them. Heat is not an issue as this thing was on for almost an hour and i had been messing with it all day blinding myself for pleasure.

Here is the charger:

The here is the light with the icon rogue for comparison with the charger:

Then here is the beam shots with the icon on the right on high @ 100lumens:
http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/Maglite 36 led Nichia GS k1 module/IMAG0169.jpg

Then here is the maglite beam with the icon in the middle of the beam. As you can not see the icon what so ever... Pure glory?:sssh:, I think so...
http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/Maglite 36 led Nichia GS k1 module/IMAG0170.jpg

Then here is a shot with the house being a football field away but the camera had a hard time adjusting as this thing could easily double the distance with great detail, not just a dim glow but a ultrabright flood:

http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/Maglite 36 led Nichia GS k1 module/IMAG0157.jpg

http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/Maglite 36 led Nichia GS k1 module/IMAG0160.jpg

Then here is a shot with an object 50meters away:

http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad164/ktm230/Maglite 36 led Nichia GS k1 module/IMAG0161.jpg

The here is a shot with an object 10meters away as the camera is not night sensitive friendly but up close it was good. Ill take better night shots in the next day with a different camera perhaps and if anybody knows some good tricks as I would love to hear them:

Hope you like it and if there are any questions and comments please fire away.

Thanks for your interest

That looks alright an would be bright but the unit i got would almost quadruple the ouput of the one you have shown me. Also the color or tint would be flawlwess as the nichia leds are of the highest quality.. Thanks for posting that link as this is a forum for ton's of information.

Thanks for you interest...
