How is this discussion of US law related to the thread topic of Australian law?

I wonder what Austrialian law is based on. It is related in contrast, and it is related because the spirit of the source of our laws is the same. Austrailia, to its great benefit, actually follows their laws. I love how if a bridge or some large public work in AU is created and paid for by a law set up for 20 years of tolls, and then 20 years later, the tolls come down. Similar laws create similar public works here, with the same limitation of tolls to pay for it... yet the tolls stay forever. IMO, the AU doesn't **** around like the US does with money.

The Federalist Papers make it extremely clear that weapons are to the defense against terrony. The founding sales argument for the adobtion of the US constitution. .. Yes, two year imprisonment for using a Fenix light IS terrony! Well, stupidity at best.

In Victoria Australia, under the crimes act of 1958, shinning a bright light on someone can be consider an assault.

"Assault is the direct or indirect application of force to the body of, or to the clothing or equipment worn by, a person (s. 31(2)).

Application of force includes the application of heat, light, electric current or any other form of energy, as well as the application of matter in solid, liquid or gaseous form (s. 31(3))."

a distress signal, or distress flare,
When the authorities see one of these they will mount a search and rescue operation looking for the person in distress. If you are not in distress and set off a distress flare you waste a lot of S&R effort.
Its similar to dialing 911 (or 999 in some countries) when you do not have an emergency. Or pulling a fire alarm when there is no fire. It is easier and quicker to determine if its a prank call in these cases so the penalties are usually less.
