I bought this grinder at a farm and shop auction. It's an old Black & Decker 1 HP. It has 7" stones on it but I think I may be able to go up to 10" on it. I found a date of 2/1957 on the starter relay.

I did not like seeing all the rust spots coming through all the flaking paint so I planned a cosmetic restore project.
It had a LOT of paint on it. I counted 5 different colors.

I first treated the parts (except the motor) in an electrolytic bath for a few days that converted the rust and loosened a few coats of paint then used paint remover and a wire wheel for the rest.
For the motor, I used a pneumatic scraper and a disc sander.

I was going to paint it industrial grey but I saw some "Hammered" paint and I liked the look of it.

So here it is in all it's glory.
What color should I paint the switch cover? Stay with the light gray or the same as the rest? What about the motor bolts, do they get painted? I've never done a restore before.

Very nice work. I like the hammertone silver, looks like factory.

Are you doing the rest of the stand?
