Its not a proper review but more practical experience of the light - I was just so impressed by it!:

This is without a doubt the most powerful LED light I've ever owed - and I've owned quite a few! It says its big on the description but its only after unpacking you realise just how large and to be frank impressive this torch is.

The other thing that it impressed me was its build quality. Its sturdy and well made. The torch lens glass is so transparent I wasn't even sure it was there and touched it with a finger to make sure!

I tried it out late one evening in countryside near me and was blown away by its power. The throw this torch has is amazing.

Its actually hard to judge distances in the dark so I went back the next day in the light. There'd been a farm house which I'd briefly shone the torch at from the road. It was quite a few fields away but illuminated clearly with the light. By luck the farm house is shown on a 1:25000 OS map and using the digital map on a PC I was able to estimate the farmhouse was just under 500m away from where I used my torch.

While the throw quoted by the manufacturer is 1000m I guess with the naked eye 500m is a realistic max - but that's still almost 1/3 of a mile!

Its possible the throw is better than 500m but I wasn't able to find an object in clear view that was over 500m away.

Despite its massive size the torch is actually not too bad to carry around. It balances well in the hand and easy to grip. Its not a torch you use round the house or casually throw in a bag in case you need a light. Its too big and too bright for general use.

I didn't have it switched on for long periods but certainly while I Was using it I didn't notice any excessive heat generation.

I don't think currently there are brighter LED torches - there are brighter HID lights but quality HID lights are over £1000.

This is a specialist torch - I very much doubt mine will get as much use as one of my smaller and less bright torches like the Fenix P3D. Its for search and rescue teams or for people like me who just have to own a massively bright torch despite its less practical nature!

No argument from me. I love mine. I shine it down into slow running riverbeds to see all the fish down there. I think it's a great tactical weapon to just hit someone who is not suspecting it in the eyes and there out of the picture for about 10 seconds. I always carry the light using the provided should strap. it makes carrying it around a snap. I planning on buying a cheapo telephoto lens camera bag for it so I can wear it like a little back pack.

Thanks for your impressions of the light, it sounds awesome; I was wondering how a light like the SR90 compares to something I have a stanley hid spotlight?, does the SR90 provide a lot of flood, that might be a stupid question but I just don't know which light would more useful if say your in a big field, does the SR90 behave the same as a spotlight?, or if you have the choice to grab the SR90 or the spotlight before to going into a big field which would you take with you? thanks; Chris

The SR90 is not a flood light, but it has some spill:

nice beamshots! I'd like to get one but honestly, it would never see ANY use in Singapore except to wow people.

The picture on the left looks more like a spotlight (HID) than the one on the right.

The way you wrote SR90, L35HID above the pictures appears to be telling us that the picture on the left is the SR90 and the one on the right is the HID.

Is this indeed the case....and as per the norm, I am incorrect?

The labels are the same sequence as the picture, the large reflector on SR90 gives a very good throw!

wow, so based on those beamshots I would be more inclined to buy the spotlight shown than the SR90 I think, (if I had money to buy either lol), I just don't see the benefit of the SR90 when I could use my $70 or whatever I paid for the stanley hid spotlight, for long distances, someone please correct me if my assumptions are wrong though

The SR91 is supposed to be more flood, how much remain to be seen.
There are some very significant usage differences between led and HID. Led has instant on and multiple levels (On multiple level HID, the levels are very close).

Just info for those stating the HID (Stanley, Titanium, etc.) is the better choice.

I have the Amondotech HID which became the Titanium and judging from the pictures, the SR90 may very well be the better choice for seeing in the distance.

The Titanium and the Stanley throws a large spill beam. This spill beam cuts down on your long range viewing because it causes your eyes to adjust to the light up close and it hurts your ability to see the light hitting objects far away.

Would the SR90 benefit from having an aspheric lens like the DEFT?

It'd become one seriously heavy light if modded in that manner!

I think it'd be a waste though, at least in practical terms.

But if one were loaded with money and time and just wanted to build something with throw so insane you'd need binoculars to see what it actually IS you're lighting up, maybe....
