Newly Enlightened
Its not a proper review but more practical experience of the light - I was just so impressed by it!:
This is without a doubt the most powerful LED light I've ever owed - and I've owned quite a few! It says its big on the description but its only after unpacking you realise just how large and to be frank impressive this torch is.
The other thing that it impressed me was its build quality. Its sturdy and well made. The torch lens glass is so transparent I wasn't even sure it was there and touched it with a finger to make sure!
I tried it out late one evening in countryside near me and was blown away by its power. The throw this torch has is amazing.
Its actually hard to judge distances in the dark so I went back the next day in the light. There'd been a farm house which I'd briefly shone the torch at from the road. It was quite a few fields away but illuminated clearly with the light. By luck the farm house is shown on a 1:25000 OS map and using the digital map on a PC I was able to estimate the farmhouse was just under 500m away from where I used my torch.
While the throw quoted by the manufacturer is 1000m I guess with the naked eye 500m is a realistic max - but that's still almost 1/3 of a mile!
Its possible the throw is better than 500m but I wasn't able to find an object in clear view that was over 500m away.
Despite its massive size the torch is actually not too bad to carry around. It balances well in the hand and easy to grip. Its not a torch you use round the house or casually throw in a bag in case you need a light. Its too big and too bright for general use.
I didn't have it switched on for long periods but certainly while I Was using it I didn't notice any excessive heat generation.
I don't think currently there are brighter LED torches - there are brighter HID lights but quality HID lights are over £1000.
This is a specialist torch - I very much doubt mine will get as much use as one of my smaller and less bright torches like the Fenix P3D. Its for search and rescue teams or for people like me who just have to own a massively bright torch despite its less practical nature!
