Do some guys here leave their sf p/g/c series lights or mags the way they are? If so why or why not?

You could leave Mags and Surefires stock, but for those who get some use out of them (as opposed to pure collectors), why not ...adjust a torch to suit your exact needs.

...Then there those of us who just want to play [brand] lego...

He says, staring at the *counts*: six emitters (LED and incan), three cell types, three switches and various tubes and extenders littering his desk...

I too will admit that most of my SureFire lights are stock with the exception of running AW rechargeable cells in some. My Mags on the other hand--I think almost all of them are modded :D

IMO, Mag incans have to be modded, they suck so much.

On the other hand, Surefire lights are just fine stock.

All M*glites are technology of 1980s with poor performace and most of $urefires are for military use and $10 per hour operation is too expensive for ordinary people.

Most of people who use stock M*glites, don't know about performance of modified M*glites and most of people who use stock $urefires, are rich.

everytime i see a stock 3D, which is most of the maglites i see, I tell them to put 4 Cs in it. they are almost always wowed at the improvement.

Not so much rich as ignorant I think. Once the whole concept of long runtime/high output LED dropins and rechargable batteries sinks in it's bye bye to primaries except for emergency/spare use.

"ignorant" .... well, not so sure about that but rechargeable seem to have substantial benefits in most situations.

I'd say half of my Surefires are stock but none of my mags are.

All of my Surefires (and others actually) are stock with 2 exceptions.

1: I have a single Malkoff M60W in a Z2L, my EDC.
2: A E2DL tailcap on a E1B.

They all have primaries, I got out of the rechargeable game a while back.

Much as I love the M60W, if it didn't exist I'd be perfectly happy with the stock P60. It's easy to forget just how good a simple G2/6P really is. I don't mean that by our high (and bright) standards, I mean by the standards of the non-enlightened.

Because it seems like it didn't quite come across correctly in text, I'll explain. I find the connotations associated with "only rich people" (waste, excess, etc) to be far more negative than merely ignorant. Ignorant just means that someone isn't aware of or hasn't had a chance to learn about something. It just seemed a bit condecending to say that only rich people use primary batteries, they have their place in the working man's world too.

Nobody mentioned about LEDs in title or first post also this is in incand section.

Lithium primaries when on sale are about as cheap as d cells around here.

Not so cheap in Europe or far east.
D cells last for several hours in stock M*g but Lithium primaries last only 20 minutes or an hour in most $urefires.

My bad, wasn't paying much attention to what forum I wandered into. As far as I'm concerned lights is lights anyways :) The rechargables thing goes double for incandescent. Great way to save on money with high output bulbs, but unless someone stumbles onto CPF there's not much in the way of public information. Most folks just see the batteries at drugstores or wherever for 12 bucks a pair and assume that's what they have to pay to use the light. I almost never actually used my E2 or M3 after the first two sets of batteries wore out, just too expensive since this was before I knew (or there was?) batterystation and surefire bulk discounted cr123's. Always grabbed the photon II on the keychain first even when the E2 would have been more appropriate.

I got into surefires when the millenium series was first introduced. Back then the idea of any sort of aftermarket/rechargable anything was heresy. Were it not for all the praise the malkoff dropins get I would probably still be running mostly stock on my P60 surefires. I'm still thinking about running a hotwire in the C2 with my IMR16340's, most likely a lumens factory lamp because of the lower cost and better matched bulb with rechargables compared to a P90/91.

Roger that :)

I have a stock 4D Maglite to serve as a reminder of how far I’ve came:faint: and to demonstrate the difference between modded lights and stock Maglites to none flashaholic. “technically it has an upgraded halogen bulb but that only gives it a tighter beam not more output.

SureFire made my flashlight. FiveMega and AW made it awesome. :D While the P60 is okay for shorter distances and makes a beautiful beam there are just too many better options out there if you're looking for performance. Of the stock SureFire incans I like the P91 on IMR's the best. The way I see it incan is for brightness and color, if you're after long runtimes LED's have an edge. YMMV.

I'm currently infatuated with the 1166 in FM's D26 bi-pin module because it offers a large amount of output for a relatively modest draw. On 3x 16340 IMR it doesn't have the longest runtime in the world but it packs a lot of punch for a pocketable light and has a long enough life to be useful for personal security. I only wish those little 16340's had a bit more oomph. I'd like to see an 18340 IMR or else a 3x 18500 host. With 750 or 1000 mah cells the mini-1166 would really shine, so to speak.

I would say: my Mags are mildly modded (just another bulb - a halogen bulb by Osram) and my Surefires are stock. Maybe another dropin in my C2 or C3, but that's about it.

My favorite is still the C3 with P90 and two 17500s for guilt-free lumens.

Timmo.
