Can anyone offer an explanation please.

I have a light engine with an XR-E emitter and a Piglet driver. It functions fine with primary 123's, but only with some of my rechargeable 123's. This seems to be irrespective of the state of charge of the RCR's, or discharge of the primaries. (These down to 2.6V at present).

A second LE with the same components works fine with all the RCR's.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

could it be the cutoff on the cell your using?
if they are protected, cells and the led is being overdriven , a protected cell has a SHORTs protection, that can be at 2amps.
only way to test it, is to check the battery voltage itself when you put the load on it.

then reverse that, if they are down to 2.6v , then the low voltage cutoff is kicking in as soon as you put a load on it.
also if they are li-ion cells you dont want to leave them at 2.6v , charge them up
