Hello guys. I'm really excited just got my Pila charger in the mail today and my AW RCR123 should be here friday. I know that I need spacers for the RCR123 to fit. I took a stack off about 10 pennies and they look like they will work. If I clean them up good so they make contact really good does anyone see a trouble with that? If so other suggestions?

Try dimes, they have 91.67% copper. Penny has 2.25% copper. Actually pennies will work ok, just better conduction with dimes.

If you're going to use pennies, use the pre 1982 ones. They have a 95% copper content. I've used solder a few stacks for an excellent thermal & electrical path.

However for your application, I'd go with Bullzeyebill's suggestion with the dimes for their smaller diameter. They will fit in the charger better.

Hope that helps,

Can I Use Coins as a spacer for a PILA charger?

Coins as a spacer for a PILA charger I am going to buy this week to charge AW protected RC123's? If so is one coin preferred over others?
