I want to protect the surface of some sheet aluminum (the size of a place mat) while I'm working on the edges, and back. Instead of taping paper or other stuff to the surface, is that a spray protective coating I can put on the aluminum?

I am not aware of anything that might work. just one question - do you want that to be easily removable? Some painters masking tape might be the easiest to get and use.

There is this thing called spray on bra, it's for front of car to prevent stone chips. Shold be relatively strong and comes off with pressure washer.

Yes, I'm looking for something that can be easily removed when I'm finished with the workpiece. What I'm thinking of is sorta like the protective plastic film on lexan. While working on my sheet aluminum, I will be drilling, tapping, cutting, and sliding it around on my workbench. Don't want any scratches on the flat surface and I'm not looking to jewel the entire surface afterwards (toooo much time).

I've used the plastic carpet mask. Kind of like a heavy plastic wrap with adhesive. It is very similar to the mask that comes on lexan. I think you can get it at Lowes or Home Depot.

Sounds like this would suit your needs:

It's sprayable & you can cut it to use it just like masking tape. It's rubbery/latex like & peels off easily depending on the surface. Be sure to apply a good coating though, too thin & it will be hard to peel off.

I bought it from the local hobby shop. Works great.
