Question about G2 LED

Would it be better to buy the new G2 LED or to modify an older G2 incan? I really like the thought of up to a 12 hour run-time with the newer version. I know the light drops off after 3 hours, but 12 hours of light off of 123's is good in my book. Or would it better to use an older G2 and use a drop-in? What are the advantages of both ways?

Sorry for asking if this has already been answered, but I used the search and came up empty. Thanks in advance.

I have a G2 with a drop in. It can be a great light: however...the new G2 led's have an aluminun head....better for heat sinking- even though the all nylon one works fine for me. I believe the quality of the sure fire drop in is probably a bit better than the cheap DX models. If you uuse a premium drop in...say Malkoff or BOG or dereelight- the total cost will equal the surefire one anyways.
I would say that if you can afford it...get the G2 led with the new head...make sure you're getting the new model! THe other drops in may be a bit brighter, but will cut out much sooner.

If you need super bright...hey, there are lots more great lights out there!

Thanks for the reply! Which would you recommend in the $50-$60 price range? I can pick up the G2 LED for $55 so something in that price range with more light, equal durability, and longer run-time w/no mods would be great, if at all possible.

I've read up on this forum that the Romisen RC-F4 at 1/4 the price, is a good bang-for-the-buck light. I know the quality is not up to par with the G2 LED, but how does it match up as far as light output versus the G2?
