Question about mult-die LEDs

LEDs put out a thin line-width of output so white LEDs are designed to output a blue peak and then use phosphors to get longer wavelengths, so as to appear white. I've got that.

But are red leds less intense than blue ones? And if so, is there a fundamental reason or is it just that they haven't gotten so much research?

Now that we have multi-die LEDs like the P7, it would seem that you could have the dice be difference colors, thus improving color without or with less phosphor.

Single-package RGB LEDs have been around for a few years already. Hopefully, Cree will release an RGBA MC-E at some point.
