hello,

I have (2) Q3s, and a LH and EDC Ult 60. I was wondering if anyone would recommend good XRE/Seoul LED mods for these lights--if they are even available--or would it be better to go ahead and sell them--and just buy newer versions of the EDC or Q3/similar? (For the LH if it cant be modded, it should be sold as a collectors item, right?)

I have not checked out newer lights for sometime until I read about the more efficient Cree LEDs that ppl have been moving too--which I generally prefer over maximum brightness.

The QIIIs have been modded with Seouls and Crees, the HDS with a Seoul. There is supposed to be a Rebel QIII coming out at the end of the month and there's the Novatac.

Contact CPF member milkyspit he modded my Nuwai with a Cree XR-E I'm sure he could do it with a Seoul P4.

I modded my QIII with a Seoul P4 and an IMS20 reflector for more throw. I also did the "penny" mod to the heatsink. Works GREAT!
Now if I could only find the time to do the 2 level switch mod......

You can add some ROAR to your LionHart with either a Cree or SSC P4 and an Mcr27. The reflector comparo pic shows it needs a little modifying. OK, a lot. :green: It was time consuming since I used a dremel for the bulk of the removal then hand filed and sanded to get it fine tuned just right. The stock reflector can work but mine was scratched (by me!) and I like the Mcr27 anyway. Remember the LH is direct drive so check the emitters vf because if it is too low you could overdrive it.

So,
It looks like the QIII has had lots of different mods at this point...great! After some add'l research I read about Milkyspit's mod and pm'd him on that too. For the LH it seems like the directdrive feature of that like makes a mod a little bit more intensive/serious, correct?

No, it`s nice to use an emitter that runs on high at the drive current you want without a resistor or real close to it with just a small resistor. You mentioned contacting Milky. If you plan on sending the light to him, he has modified a whole lot of flashlights so he knows what he is doing to fix you up right. On the reflector, I remebered the LionHart came with a smooth one and a Cree really needs a textuerd or orange peel type reflector IMHO. The beam with a Cree would have artifacts and rings in it with the stock reflector. SSC P4 is the better choice if sticking with stock one. I am not sure if Milky will want to mess with fitting an Mcr27 but he might??? :shrug: The way I did it with a dremel, file & sandpaper was a time consuming PITA and a small oops! :green: could easily trash the reflector! :sick2: Milky may have better tools to use? Can`t hurt to send him a PM and ask.
