Hey all

I'm not sure if anyone here at CPF rides recumbent trikes, but I thought I would share this none the less.

I recently finished this lighting setup for a friends recumbent trike.

You can find some more pictures here.

Its specs:
  • Uses four XR-E Q5's in total.
  • Has two Ledil Square optics on the handle bars(5.5degrees spread)
  • Has two Ledil Square optics on the derailleur arm at the front (oval 30degree+ spread)
  • Uses individual switches for the wide beam and pencil beam lights.
  • Infinite variable brightness control vie a pot (100ma to 1A)
  • Two hour run time at full brightness or 8 hours at 350mA with all four lights on.
  • Separate (quick detachable) charger/driver/battery box at the back of the bike.
  • Uses 12 NiMh cells in a pack with self contained 0.1C 'dumb' charger.

This is my first attempt at LED light project so any and all comments welcome.

Cheers,

Capo

Trying to add lost information to thread....

As Capo_Au said: This page has some Refinements for the trike lights.

These are the most substantial improvements in my eyes:

  • Add a battery level meter.
  • Use a 4 position knob for brightness adjustment rather than a pot.
  • Use low self discharge (LSD) NiMh batters instead of current type.
  • Make light assembly and battery box more water resistant.
My interest in this thread? I Need (want) to install some lights to my Summer Recumbent Trike:
