Hello flashaholics!

I just found this site yesterday and after many hours of reading I know much more than I previously did but not enough to plan a direction. There is SO much information in this forum that it is hard to wade through it all. I had NO IDEA this site existed previously and I was so impressed with myself and the lighting improvement when I upgraded the bulb in my 2D to the Mag LED lol...what a noob

I have 2 Mag Lites, a 2D and a Mag Charger, and I am interested in improving light output but I am also concerned about runtimes. In other words, I don't want a lighthouse that only lasts for 15 mins. The flashlights are used for dog walking and although it would be cool to blind any would-be attackers, I also have to think about not blinding the dog ;)

I am looking to have a runtime of about 90 mins, and I am looking for a bulb/battery combo that will give me nice light output for that timeframe.

Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Welcome XR driver. I've been a member in here for a little while now, but there are much more experienced than I am. A few suggestions though. I'd try using the search functions first with maybe different key words if you don't at first find what you're looking for. I'd also look at the incandescent threads category and even the marketplace and /or custom B/S/T to get some ideas what's out there even. I was really into the LED scene for the past 6 months, but have recently taken an interest in the Maglite modification world. WOW is all I have to say. Just when I thought I learned SO much about the LED options, I get floored by all the different build options for Maglites.

If your looking to mod your current mags, you can use a simple LED drop in or keep the incandescent setup and make a ROP setup, (Roar Of Pelicans I think is what it stands for). This is what I'm currently waiting to recieve from someone who already built it, but you can easily make your own. Here's a link that may seem pretty technical at first, but it's a staring point that may help. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...d.php?t=120462
There are several other links from this. Without overwhelming you, an ROP setup replaces the stock bulb with a more powerful one, reflector, lense and usually uses different batteries or battery packs that use a special charger, although cheap. I'd say more, but I'm new to this as well. I'd hate to confuse you or tell you something that wasn't correct. Mostly, spend the time to surf these sites a little and the knowledge will come. Most everyone I've chatted with has been very helpful and more than willing to explain things. It's alomst like a big family in here.

You may want to check out this website as well. http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1. This guy is a VERY well respected custom builder of aftermarket light parts. I have one of is LED drop ins for my Surefire 6P and love it!

I hope this helps. Look around, see what interest's you, get some ideas and go from there. If you can dream it up, there's likely a guy who can build it or mod it for you. Beware though, if not careful, you'll develop a new found addiction as we all have in here... HIDE THE WALLET!

Good Luck,
Dan
