The color temperature shift during start-up is perfectly normal and is a characteristic of all HID's to some extent.

Congratulations on probably the most collectible HID light ever! I'd enjoy seeing some pics.

...is it normal that after a short while, the bottom section of the HID bulb starts forming a matt-ish texture rather than being clear glass?

That is normal.

Will also find you get longer runtimes than the 2 hours indicated by Surefire. I've run mine
continuously for over 2 hours and 15 minutes, although the charge indicator light was on, it
was still going strong.

Initially I was just over the 2 hour mark, but after several cycles of the battery, runtimes
have gotten even better.
