Smoked the Lux I in my 3x AA Mag. Cree XR-E Drop in?

I just smoked the factory original Lux III Emitter in my minimag because the emitter heat sink compound came loose. Can I just drop in a Cree XR-E? I've compared the specs on both and they seem close.

Lux III: 700ma @ 3.7v and 1000ma @ 3.9v
Cree XR-E: 750ma @ 3.5v and 1000ma @3.7v

The minimag came with some sort of driver. I've attached photos of it. I'm guessing it's a constant current driver?

I'd like to keep using alkaline AA's since my employer supplies them for me. I'm very comfortable with electronics, but I really don't want to get to crazy with the mods. I Just don't have a lot of spare time.

What are your opinions?

I don't feel like I have a right to complain since I'm new here but, I just wish CPF had a better search engine like some other boards, I probably would have found my answer right away. The outsourced Google search seems too clumsy to get good results.

A Seoul LED should also work, and it has a closer beam pattern to the Luxeon.
