I have decided that i need a small, bright incandescent but i am not sure what way to go. I am normally an LED guy so please forgive my ignorance. I want something small, that can near enough match a P60 or P61 for output. I am thinking along the lines of an E2E with a Lumens Factory LA, or with the P61 mod. I have also been thinking of the A2 but i dont think it will be bright enough. I want runtime to be 30 mins plus, and as bright as i can get in a small form factor. The thing that appeals with the A2 is the regulation and low level option with the LEDs, as far as i know this is the only light that offers all this. Can anyone chime in with some advice please?

Go somewhere where you can handle a real A2. Shine it around and tell me it's not bright! And because of the regulation, it will stay bright.

I have a G2 and that is quite bright! I also got the L4 body with the E1E head that makes it an E2E, and I got a LF LA in there, got the 150 Lumen bulb, but thats only bulb lumen, dont know exactly how much that is out from the light, would guess 75 lumen. I really want the A2 and Im going to buy it soon! Have looked at some other lights as well that is kind of interesting, but they are a bit bigger than the A2 and E2E, Wolf Eye M90 or 9A Raider. Thats my suggestions, would like to see a incan in tha size of a E2E that would be 200 lumen regulated! With a runtime of an hour! That would be grate, but dont thinks it possible... :(

I am in England so that is a no go i am afraid. It is a very nice light from what i have read, can anyone tell me how it stacks up against a P60 or P61, as i have an M2 so i can relate to these. I think the E2E+ mod sounds good, I might have to try that.

A few weeks ago, just be4 I modded my 6P with a Cree and Flupic 900-1000, I used it with the normal LA, as well as the 3P and the 9N that were bundeled together here at my "depot".
At this size of light, the Cree at 900 mA eats the incans with ease.
And has better runtime

If You dont have the need for a forward clicke: Fenix L2D-CE, else there are several models (there is a tread on this just now) with forward.

As far as I have got som info here, the A2 might be the only alternative, with its regulated output, but I, for my part, will not switch back to incans. Runtime, different levels of output, light color is more important to me.

If I would find the need for a high output light (ROP or such), I would go for multiemitter Led. Simply better, but more expensive.

Ask and you shall recieve;
the picture below shows the A2 on the left, the P61 on the right, the P61 has a wider hotspot, but look at how much whiter the A2 is, it retains that brilliant white beam while the P61 gets yellower as the batteries drain....

Wow! I had no idea that the A2 was that nice. I really like the P61 but it gets so yellow so fast its upsetting! I am leaning toward the A2, unless anyone can convince me otherwise. I know that Cree can beat incan in these size lights, and i am considering a 27lt with ssc or cree upgrade as well, but for the time being i am just interested in incan lights.

On SureFire's A2 Operator's Manual UM_A2:

Output & Runtime
What can be said, in simple terms at this time, is that the light output of the A2 exceeds the 60 lumen output of comparable SureFire tungsten lamp flashlights (6P, C2, E2e, etc.), and the runtime is longer than the one hour specified for these tungsten lamp flashlights.

Go for the A2. You really can't appreciate the color quality in the beam until you see it. I suppose it's not for everyone, if you want an incan you can't find a better one on the market.

First time I got to play with one, I thought, "Ah, the lower-output-at-only-50-lumens A2" and stupid me looking right at the lamp, "Okay, there's the LED's... neat.... press a little harder "AAARGGGHHH I'M BLIND!!!". :) I was pretty impressed.

if you are willing to go rechargable, something like an SR-9 or P90 on a pair of Li-Ion RCR123s would be brighter than a P60, not quite P61, but run over 30 minutes like you want.

[edit] actually... scratch that suggestion:

an EO-4 would be almost as bright as that, and run for more like 45+ minutes on an 18650 in the same size host. a WE-6 series with non-turbo head would be perfect.

Is a stock E2e out of the question? This was my first Surefire light, and still one of my favorites, even compared to the rest of the Surefires I own, and I own almost the entire catalog.

It's small enough to forget in a pocket (I mean that in a good way) and bright enough for any urban duty you'd care for. And easy on batteries. SF rates the runtime at one hour, but an E2e will long outrun any of my P60 lights in terms of battery life.

AZ electronics in Brewer St, London may have one to see. They also have a better branch in Buckingham Palace Road half way between the palace and Victoria Station.
This thread might help.

London is a bit out of my way, but i will trust the views of my fellow CPF members. I think an A2 will be on its way to kent soon.

I concur with Mdocod, don't necessarily be sold on the Surefire is brightest and best line (oh did i forget most expensive? :ironic: ) the WE 6 series offers great output with a bonus of rechargeable which for me is essential as the price of primaries is criminal here is Australia and all for less than half the price of the A2.

I must admit i am pretty sold on the A2 because of the LED low level. I just think its a really nice design. I will check out the other lights you have all mentioned too, after all i cant just buy one now, can i?

I think a Vital Gear FB3, with an E to C adapter and the z44 (or other compatible) head would be a great host for one of the Lumens Factory 9V D26 LAs. The SR-9, for example, is rated at 220 bulb lumens for 60 minutes on 3 CR123As.
