Re: Custom Mokume Gane 10440 Light

:takeit:WOW...That is nice! I admired the one Neale has ....Now he can admire mine! Hey Fred, I ended up buying (Brighterisbetter) Bruce's Nautilus that you modded too and it is just gorgeous to watch in the dark with all those tritium vials. GREAT WORK! I am very proud to get this one too but I was wondering if you could please include the li-ion cell too as I don't have any of these and it would just drive me nuts to get the light and not be able to see it in action until I ordered new cells. What charger do I need for the unprotected 10440's. I am no electronics genius but I love cool lights and this one rocks!

Re: Custom Mokume Gane 10440 Light

And here I was thinking I was about to corner the market on Mokume Gane lights!

Nice grab - now the bet is on as to how long Karl is going to keep it! Mine is a lower light, smaller unit - this one having a P4 will rock.

Karl,

The battery is included--hey, for that price, you should get something nice, eh?

As for a charger, any Lithium Ion 4.2V charger should work. I have an UltraFire Rapid Charger, not that I'm pushing that brand. I'm sure that all the usual guys, Lighthound, Battery Space, and Battery Junction, offer reasonably cheap solutions.

Thanks Fred...I think the one I got from Dark Zero with the camo mag he built for me will work. I may need to get some spacers made. You know if you add up all the hours you put into this light I'm sure it is a bargain and a labor of love. Thanks! I was waiting to send payment until I knew about the battery. :hitit: all over again!

Karl, no, don't try it! The one I built you is strictly for fast charging larger capacity cells such as any li-ion that has a capacity of 2200mah or higher such as 18650s or any IMR that's 18500 or larger.

The 10440 is only a 320mah cell. Even most of the common chargers have a charge rate that is too high for these cells. AW has a somewhat of a good chart for the basics in his thread: http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=200812

You should use a charger that has a charge rate of 250ma or lower. The charger I built you charges at 1800ma.

will and Fred I have an Ultrafire WF-139 and I think that is what I need. I use it for my 14500's and I assume the 10440 is the same size as a standard AAA cell or close. I think this light is similar in size to the Rainbow Killer I have that uses standard AAA rechargeables. Also thanks Will for the heads up! The light you built for me is my desk ornament and has less than a couple minutes of run time so I have never recharged the original batteries. Will, I never even looked at the charger...it is still in the box as received. Fred, payment has been sent and thank you for offering this light as I think it looks great and will be a fine addition to my toy collection! :paypal: :thanks:To Fred and Dark Zero for their fine custom contributions that enlighten my life!

LOL, I'm sure you will need it sooner or later. :grin2:

The WF-139 is rated for 450ma charge rate which is still too high for the 10440 & not recommended. You will kill the battery. A Nano charge would be a better choice & they are not expensive at all. $7.50 from Lighthound. Would still need a spacer though.

EDIT: I still have some RCR123 size Nano chargers. I can sell you one for $10 shipped & I'll make you a spacer for use with the 10440. Just let me know if you need one.

PF - Wow. Well done. You've really come a long way working with this material from the first examples that appeared on your site, which was amazing even at the start.

re: chargers - CPF Saberwolf sells a USB charger with 100ma or 200ma models, tiny little things that'll work with just about any computer or device with a usb output terminal. Sounds like they're the rate you're looking for.
