I was able to purchase a few Cree UV LED's from a fellow CPF member a while back. I used 2 of them with P60 style drop-in hosts, one for my Dad and one for myself. He was blown away by the difference between this single LED and the big cluster of 5mm LED's in his "expensive" UV Flashlight. We use them with dye to find leaks in cars and trucks. I still had one left and it has been driving me nuts with what to do with it. I've realized that the E1B does not get as much use considering I have smaller brighter lights and an E2DL.
So yes, The E1B has been transformed into the E1B-UV:cool:
I am very happy with the results and have been wanting to do a dedicated E-series head utilizing it. The low is nice and the high is downright cool with the stock Surefire TIR optic.:twothumbs

You guys are killing me..... I missed out on the XR UV's!!! Didn't even know they were offered!

If you like the E1B-UV then I'm sure you'll like the A2-UV

I completely gutted an A2 head a while back and sanded down a Cree reflector to fit inside. The pill from my P60 drop-in fits inside the bare A2 host body I had laying around. I wish the low from the 2-stage tailcap was lower but oh well..

DeFab, some step by step instructions as to how you created this would be so awesome... I'd love to make something like this... What's the runtime on it like?

woahhhh, gives those lights we see on CSI all the time a run for thier money.....

Considering I have the pics up of what it looks like all apart, I will try to explain.
1. Open the Bezel into it 3 main components(Top-Middle-Bottom)
2. Unscrew the 2 TINY screws holding the LED
3. Desolder and carefully remove the LED
4. Remove driver
5. Make a shim for the Cree and glue down with thermal adhesive
6. Use thermal adhesive to glue the Cree to the shim(center the LED before it dries
7. Insert driver and resolder to Cree
8. Screw back together and DONE!

Hope that helps...

I haven't seen these same ones available since I got 'em.

I'm sure they're out there...just hard to find.

And if ya do find some...please point me in the right direction:thumbsup:

Looks awesome!

Forgive my ignorance, but I have 2 doubts:

1 - Where can you use a UV light like that ? I mean... Is there a real situation that you can use it a UV light ? For what ?

2 - Which kind of LED does the original E1B has ?

Thanks!

Are you saying this is photoshopped?

Answers:

1. Checking bathrooms, Checking ID's, Credit cards, Money, Money orders lots of other stuff...

2. The E1B has a Cree from the factory

So what are your doubts?

Absolutely NOT!

I was just curious, because I didn´t know where a UV light can be applied... Anyway, the light is awesome! Congrats!

I've got the E1B-UV on loan at the moment and I'm very impressed. The only other UV light I'd had experience with was an Arc-AAA UV. The output on this one is way more than I had anticipated, and the optic from the stock E1B really throws the light far. No nasty stains uncovered yet but I can light up a stop sign all the way down the block. I can't imagine a situation personally where this light would see regular use; I'm not a saloon bouncer or a scorpion hunter :grin2:, but I could definitely see where this would come in handy for the right profession. As it is though, it's definitely cool to play around with for novelty reasons alone and I'll probably look into eventually getting one of my own. A BIG THANKS to DaFABRICATA for the loaner.
