Newly Enlightened
Hey everyone. Got to working on another mod from parts that I bought from the Marketplace courtesy of ttran97. Thanks to ttran for supplying parts for my newfound madness. My wife isn't to crazy about this flashoholism, but she's getting a light out of it. She doesn't like the extreme bright and tight beam the E1b head had so I paired up this combo due to her liking the smooth E1b body and the small E series head, but she didn't care for the incan so much. So I attempted this mod. I've seen it before on here by Milky, but I haven't had so much luck finding info on it.
My mods aren't that pretty on the inside, but they seem to work ok. Heatsinking and all. My A2 http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=194348 was my first successful Surefire mod so I attempted my second one, though I don't think the sacrilegious Incandescnet to LED A2 conversion went too well with most folks:mecry:.
Tried a Cree Q5 at first without success at acheiving a quality beam without rings. So I went with a Lux III that I had sitting around from another light that was modded with an SSC. I have an SSC on order for this light. Driver is this one from DX DX7612. Has selectable modes and I've left the setting on low, mid, and high. One extra setting from the original E1b. Here are the pics. No beamshots with the T bin Lux III, but the high setting is the same as the LUX III Surefire L1 on a 123 primary cell. With a RCR123a, the lightbox reading is greater than my Kroma. The Protected RCR123a sits in the E1b body nicely with the mod. Hope you guys like this one better than the A2.
Please excuse the grinds on the soldering joints. I usually grind them down and don't clean up the excess flux.
Reused the original incan bulb electrical contact parts on the new driver board.
Potted Lux III t-bin emitter ultra blue with glow paint applied. Will be changing to SSC P4 later.
Milled and reamed reflector
It fit and is aligned for beam quality with an o ring underneath. I originally had this bored for the CREE emitter, but couldn't get a satisfactory beam without milling too far.
Finished light
Glow paint in action during broad daylight. Of course it was hit with a UV light!
Camparison of how much aluminum had to be removed comapared to a stock E series light.
My favorite Pic! I call "The EYE". Dark room with a UV light in the background.
Here's a comparison with some other single CR123a lights
This was the best reaction ever. PRICELE$$ moment. How many of you guys get this from your wives or girlfriends with the eyeroll? They'll never understand.....
