Contacted Surefire. They sent me a new tailcap. It's still wobbly. The light turns on when I push down the tailcap. I guess the problem is with the threads on the body, not in the tailcap. I hope it's sealed right in case I dunk it in a lake. This is a common problem with the LX2 right?

Also the tint is greenish. Especially on low. High is fine because it's so darn bright it looks whiter. Are green tint LX2's common or did I get a freak one?

Please make me feel good about the LX2. :(

What do you mean by wobby?

The light turns on when I push down the tailcap.

Sounds like its working properly

Yes, its common to have LX2s working out of the box, am I missing something?

Since the first debut of the 2007 KX heads CREEs have always bore a green tint, I find this to be a great advantage outdoors...sure beats purple hey?

The tailcap wobbles when I press the button. I can see it move. And the light will go on if I push down on the tailcap with my fingers. I don't mean the button, I mean the actual tailcap. It's so loose that it will move down and activate the light without me ever touching the button.

mine is similar. a little greenish on low , not near as green as my gladius, but looks quite white on high. I don't mind a little green as it gives the truest color rendition of all my led lights.

I've had 3 L1's, 2 A2's, my LX2, and the L2 I once borrowed all did that same thing with their tailcaps.

The green is a total personal preference thing and like the previous poster I too prefer a slight green to blue or purple. Still a tint shift on low isn't nice but lots of lights do it.
Perhaps you feel that Surefire's tail threads are too loose on these models and you can feel that way if you like but in my experience it works very well.

Sell it and buy a new Stratum. If you don't want to spend that much, again, then buy a Fenix PD30 or one of the TK models.

Also, you can send the light back to your dealer for another or even another flashlight or a refund. My dealer will take it back within 30 days.

it was one of my main concern when i got my L1 cree 2 years back. If you are used with clicky tailcaps you will found this 'threadplay' to be excessive as clicky tailcaps by its nature, have the tailcap tightened all the way down.

Try tighten the LX2 tailcap all the way and see if you still have the threadplay, it wont, and it feels rock solid :).

anyway, i decided to give the light a chance and after a while you'll totally ignore this issue and pleased with the light :)

pity on your tint though, my L1 is creamy white which is my favourite tint. I prefer yellow to green to purple.

i also have the LX2. The low mode seems to be greenish but i like it. There is a purpose doing that. On high mode it is just white. The problem you faced with the tailcap seems also normal to me. If you haven't used to it, might be a problem for you, once you get used to the tailcap operation then you wont regret it.

I just had this very same problem with the tail cap on my A2L. It seemed like it was made for a completely different light. I have some play in other SF lights that I own but on the A2L it was so loose there was no way it could keep water out.

I did the same this as you adn called surefire and they sent me out a new tail cap and it had fixed the problem.

I can relate but in the case of my light the new tail cap fit perfect. Hope you get your issue resolved the L2X is a great light as are all surefire lights.

I thought all Cree LEDs have a greenish tint when underdriven? Hence why Malkoff drop-ins typically look a tad green. At least that was the explanation I was given, and why the warm Malkoff modules sell even better than the regular ones.

The LX2 tailcap is supposed to be "wobbly". If you have the tailcap tightened down enough, yes you can complete the circuit and the light will come on with little pressure. That's the way it was designed.

The tail cap was so loose that even though the tail cap was backed off substancially if I wiggled it back and forth it would turn the light on.

I am sure that SF did not intentionally design the light to work this way.

If that was the case you would not be able to carry it in your pocket as it would drain the batteries from the movement of the tail cap.

I had the same problem, and SF sent me a new tailcap. It was a lot better but it still wobbled a little bit. When i had a problem with moisture in the bezel, SF sent me brand new LX2, and i must say, tailcap on this one stands firm and doesn't move forward if i press the button. Maybe your light is from one of the first batches, where the lights weren't "polished" yet, and still had (pre)production errors. I'm sure that Surefire will take care of your light. Ask for RMA number, explain them your issue and send the light for replacement/repair.

I've seen some tailcaps that are looser than others but I've also seen the o-rings cause the tailcap to be either loose or tight. It seems Surefire has changed their o-rings for the rear of the A2/L1/LX2 where they are smaller in diameter and fit on tighter. This seems to make the cap a bit more wobbly but the tailcap turns like butter. I wonder how this affects the water resistance though.

Yep, these problems sound very familiar.

The tailcap - I've found with mine that if it's tightened slightly beyond the marked position, a tap of the tailcap (not the switch!) will turn the light on. This seems to be a side effect of the wide and large threads.

Emitter tint - I've noticed this as well. Very greenish on low, almost to the point of being neutral. On high it's a very creamy colour, not at all brilliant white. Reading here and in other LX2 threads, this is apparently pretty common.

It sounds like your light is not actually broken or defective.

My conclusion is while this light is very versatile and a great thrower for its size, it's not for everyone. It is worth noting the head is lego-able with any E-series light.

I haven't had any luck yet opening the head, since SF loves to glue them shut. If I ever do, it's going to be tempting to try removing the optic or changing the emitter..

I got an RMA # and I sent it to them. They sent me a brand new LX2 with white tint on both low/high, less noticeable anodization mismatch, and a tighter tailcap. Although the tailcap can still turn the light on when it's pushed when twisted enough, it is much better than before. But I won't complain anymore, they sent me a brand new light for God's sake. Love the tint on this one. Just plain old white. Surefire customer service has proven to be great again.

Just out of curiousity...how long did it take from the day you mailed them your old flashlight to the day the new one arrived?
