I went ahead and ordered a factory run of 200 units.

They ship to me next week. If customs doesn't take too big of a bite, all goes well and the river doesn't rise, I hope to be able to offer some of them to forum members for a nominal fee. I'll post updates.

I'd probably be in for at least one, depending on quality and price, of course.

Total units on "interest" list 200 (out of total 200 on order from mfg)

I will open a proper thread in the Group Buy forum when I have the lighters in my hands.

My preliminary unit pricing model:
$1.24/unit (shipped from China EMS)... ($248, for 200, paypal to Kai on 4-12-07)
0.15 envelope, baggy, packing & labels... (RoyalMailers.com, Groco Seeds)
?? Customs: $cost TBD/200 units... (HTS #96132000, 9% rate, + fees)
?? PayPal fees 3% + $0.30/trans, if any ...(1st $500 w/o fees per paypal rules)
Total unit cost (before postage & ins. to you)

Postage: CONUS: $0.63 for one lighter & $0.24/oz thereafter (figure each unit is 1 oz, so after 1st unit add $0.24 for each additional unit). Insurance $1.35 (if wanted). Delivery confirmation $0.60 (if wanted). Note: postage increases May 12, 2007.

Postage: Canada: Global Priority (small) $4.25 (NO insurance, NO frills, just speed) Note: postage increases May 12, 2007.

Postage: Australia, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway & United Kingdom: Global Priority (small) $5.25 (NO insurance, No frills, just speed) Note: postage increases May 12, 2007.

My goal: cheaper is better (if these aren't cheap it won't be for lack of trying), time is money, enjoy the ride.

I received a couple of these capsule lighters today and I am excited, tickled and delighted. They are exactly what I thought they would be: quite substantial, like tiny air cylinders, all fits together well and they make FIRE! They look and feel like you could run over them with an SUV and they would survive. Really brilliant pieces of craftsmanship IMHO.

Note the handsome "traffic cone" glow-in-the-dark (aka chapstick lid) was graciously donated by glow-in-the-dark guru Phredd. Love it. Fits the LOD CE perfectly. I'm off to direct traffic with it right now!:)

Thank you all for your support.

This is alot of fun for me because I really enjoy my time here.

My preliminary run at the cost numbers tells me you will all want ten units like AJ. I will do all I can for that to come true.

And, thank you Kai for your skill, expertise and graciousness in this endeavor.

If this is true and the cost will be that reasonable I will easily be in for TEN :)

Re: survival keychain lighter, GB interest list

I'd be interested in 5, maybe more depending on cost, including shipping to Australia (I guess shipping cost won't be much different with a few more).

:thanks:

Re: survival keychain lighter, GB interest list

While attending the annual OKCA meeting in Eugene Oregon I show the capsule lighter to a half dozen people. All of of them had a favorable impression. One (knife dealer) wants a supply to sell, one (instructor to knife makers) wanted to buy a bunch, one (knife vendor) wanted to trade for the one I carry on me. One guy said that he didn't smoke and I said neither do I. I carry a lighter to have fire at my disposal. I think eveyone should have one of these.

Another outstanding, must see, knife show. If you ever get the chance to visit it you won't regret it. Loved the historic tribute to Toledo with a huge display of antique Navajas.

Thanks !!!
