Hey all you Sydneysider CPFers

This is a feeler to see if there is any interest in a get together for Sydney CPFers towards the end of the year. I was thinking sometime around the new moon of 27.11.2008 would be ideal but I can't make Thursday nights due to a pre-existing commitment so I am suggesting the evening of Friday 28.11.2008.

The location is up for nomination: The previous meets have been in different locations across Sydney and have been pretty good. I guess where we hold it depends on finding a good location and making sure it is convenient enough for everyone who wants to attend. I am in the north but will travel to anywhere in the metro area if someone suggests a good spot, ie dark with some open area that you can park near.

So, if you are interested, post here and let me know.

Rob

Hey guys its been a while since I've done too much with the flashlight community but I still have most of my torches sitting around at home :)

I'd love to meet up and see where everyone is at and maybe even catch up with some of you guys.

November 28th won't work for me unfortunately though, I have to be down in melbourne for an event that weekend.

I'm happy with friday though

Hello,

I'm happy with most night; I live in north. I don't have many flashlights but would love to meet other geeks; we're the only ones who're interested in the dark :p

I drive so most location would be fine; as long as it's not too far; blue mountain is definitely out of range.

I prefer not to go too deep into forests as admittedly I am afraid.

Cheers,
Kurni

Rob I am keen and as always don't mind where (as long as some dill doesn't organise it when a soccer match is on!), like you dark is the number one priority

I will like to get together again. It's been a long time. I'm expecting to be father in early November, so my attendance will depend on how things go. I will definately try my best to make it.

heyyyy, i wouldnt mind showing up with my loot, i may well be in sydney at that time, so please keep me posted, or should i just watch out for stray beams bouncing off clouds:nana:

Well, it looks like we've got some interest here which is a good start.

We can be flexible on dates - the 28.11.08 is just a suggested date. I would like to accomodate as many as possible but we probably need to avoid the Christmas season and pick a date so people can plan around it.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a venue? Glen's previous soccer field location might be good since soccer probably won't be on in November.

I've never been to any get-together, so my suggestion might be laughable, so please be gentle. What do you think about Frenchs Forest; Wakehurst Parkway I think it's pretty dark. There isn't any street lighting; just like an interstate road. I think there is an oval nearby well with parking. It's a pretty high hill, so you have open distance to test throw. It's not bare either so it's good to test flood.

Hello Guys,

Long time no speak.
I am in.
Nothing too new to bring to the table that Glen wont, but, I will be sure to bring the XeRay out for an evening :)

I was actually checking out a place for the next meet just a few weeks ago...

River Ave at the Bottom of Delhi Road in Chatswood looks like a great spot.
Google Map it and have a look, With Street view you can now have a good look.

There is a Tonne of roadside parking and as the park area follows the river, we can get some great throw and targets. I think there is around 50m between the road and the river too.

Will have to bring a fold up table as I didn't see any there.

Cheers,
DiCEMAN:cool:

Oh Delhi road is good, I like it because it is not too remote. Just don't shine your powerful beams towards those houses; somebody screamed at me once even though I didn't directly shine his property.

DiCEMAN: River Ave looks alright but maybe it is too close to the houses? I will check it out. I am looking forward to seeing the Xeray in action again. I still can't match that thing - its wicked!

kurni: There are no silly sugggestions but can you narrow down exactly where you mean?

I have done some searching myself and I am going to nominate Ku-ring-Gai Bicentennial Park, West Pymble at 8pm on 28.11.08 at this stage. Search for the park in google maps. The park is easily accessed from Ryde Rd (route '3').

There is an excellent natural amphitheatre called 'Golden Grove' which is to the west of the swimming pool on the satellite view. Parking is not a problem even though the park is closed to vehicles at sunset as Lofberg Ave is close by. There is a large undercover table in case to set up on. It is dark at night because there is a bit of bushland between the park and the nearby houses.

There are toilets there but I think they may be closed at night. I happen to live quite close so if we need facilities they can be reached easily and arranging a pizza delivery would be no hassle.

Rob, don't bother about my suggestion as I don't have anything specific. I just passed the road regularly at night between Manly and North Ryde. I just thought that I got the discussion started.

Furthermore, easy toilet & pizza got my vote straight away.

I'm in this time boys, and I'll make the trek all the way from the Western Suburbs.

I like the idea of utter darkness and isolation, I'm going 7 hours canoe ride + 12hr 4WD trip + 1.5 days walk into the inner Ramu region of PNG next year, I think that's where we should have it - definitely no light pollution there.

Ok stupid stuff aside there is a park (looks like a baseball field) between Magdala & Page Rds in North Ryde, it's on the Great North Walk bordered by the river, looks like it's well covered by bush and far enough away from houses and roads to not be artificially lit. Does anyone more local than I know the spot?

So far so good. A bit of interest already including some who have not posted here yet. Please let anyone else you know who might want to come along know about the meet. The more the merrier.
