Hey guys I only own one HID right now a Sams club HID and of course the WOW factor is high and it is a great cheap light to mess around with.

Now, I know about a lot of the HID's out there and am wondering due to all warnings of turning HID's of and on real quick, is there a small hand held like the Boxer that can be used for short burst of three to five seconds?

Or would this just destroy the heck out of the bulb and be an improper way of using an HID?

Thanks guys for all imput, I want a small hand held and am looking to buy one but am not really sure if it will be usefull for an HID to run in short burst.

Or should I stay with my ROP HOLA's.............

Short bursts are not the best for all HID lamps. Actually, many lamps don't produce any where near their rated output for a good 20 or more seconds. HID's don't really sound the best for your 3-5 second bursts use.

The Boxer certainly doesn't come up to brightness for a good 10-15 seconds, so that doesn't sound like a good application for it.

if you were looking for a tactial light with burst ability and the throw of a 10w hid light try looking at a 1D aspherical mags there quite impressive if you look round enough there are some about without the lens protruding past the bezel -James-

Agreed. I have several HIDs and now, several Aspherical Mag based lights. Ledean and RCatR are two guys currently building these and you may want to try them. These lights have been built using Crees and powered by
18650s or C LIons. Amazing intensity with short burst capability.
