What is the brightest easy to install drop-in for a minimag 2xAA. Is it still the TerraLux TLE 5EX? Is there something new? Any suggestions where to buy it? I know batterie junction sell them. No heavy mods please.

I wonder in wich forum can i ask noob questions? Please answer!

i just got my tle5 ex yesterday and i was amazed at how bright it was. i took it outside to test it against an old incandescant mini mag, and at about 25 yards, it lit up the whole street and bushes whereas the regular minimag would not even hardly hit the bushes when it was focused in. i also shined it on my neighbors hpus from my backyard and it pretty much lit up the whole back of their house from 75 yards. it is crazy. i highly recommend this upgrade. i got mine from battery junction because they have the cheapest price, and very fast shipping. it claims 140 lumens, but people on the forums have been saying its more around 100. but this is a newer version with a cree led. so its hard to tell. all i know is that its bright. happy hunting

i have the $18 drop in terralux for a 2 x AA maglite.

its VERY good.

i have several of the more popular lights people love on this forum, the terralux dropin is as good as almost any of them.

for less then $20, uses AA batteries, is very bright (id guess 75+ lumens)and focusable you cant go wrong.

buy it.

My brother got one of those and I think its pretty poor performing for the ~$20 he paid.

-Strange near-doughnut shaped hot spot when adjusted to flood.
-Blue-cold color tint
-A slight but very noticeable step down in Lux and Lumens compared to my RC-N3-Q5 running off 2xNiMH... and the Romisen is most definitely NOT bright at all running in this cell configuration.

No knock against minimags (I have one with a night-ize drop in)... but I really don't think a drop in mod is your best performing $$$ investment, unless the MM is sentimental and worth keeping for personal reasons.
