The Malkoff Front Porch

Not sure if this has been asked or not, but would it be safe to run 2 CR123 batteries in the M61 HOT (XP-L HI 740 lumen) or would it draw to many amps?

Draw will exceed the amount of juice a cr123 can pump. In theory it creates a short causing the battery to heat up. In practice many limit FET driven flashlights by using a lower discharge battery. An example is pairing a Lumintop FW3A with a 10amp Sanyo NCR18650GA.

Run time would be really low with a CR123 anyways

That's kind of what I was thinking and remembered reading. I have plenty of 18650's to run it on. Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

Used my M61HOT last night and I think if was stuck with only one Malkoff(yeah right) I'd be happy with it. Great light! Single battery in md1, 2, or 21700 is preferable to multiple battery set ups for my uses. Not using md3 as much as I used to. Only wish low was a little brighter like m91 with two batteries. M91 on a single battery is pretty close but been liking a little extra throw lately since nowadays I can't see as far and that white beam cuts through ambient light better than the floody M91.

The description on the malkoff website is wrong for the E2XTD version. It shows the green light being able to use (2) 123A cells, but max voltage 4.20.

Ya the runtimes he lists for his new mag light adapters looks off as well. They look real low.

@QMT93 - Concealment in general depends on where it's positioned and the clothes worn. The bezel is a friction fit in the kydex...so the fit is snug around the bezel. There is no side-to-side movement or wiggle when the MD2 is seated.

There's several choices for bezel up. Here is one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/747754...t-holster?ref=shop_home_active_14&frs=1&crt=1

Here's a USA made fabric option (I prefer the softer padded material over the nylon webbing, but the nylon has a better flap): https://ripoffs.com/flashlight-holsters/

Any holster fitting a Surefire 6P should work for the MD2.

Ripoff Holsters: The non-nylon holster fits bezel up or down and is $12 i think. There's 100s of sizes.

@kerneldrop The M61HOT head is nearly 1.25'' in diameter, but the diameter of the kydex holster you measured in your post is only 1''. Consequently, I'm not sure if I can use a kydex holster made for lights between 1.15'' and 1.4'' diameter.

All the holsters I posted will work for the M61 Hot. It may just look like 1" bc of the light and angle

I saw that too. I was disappointed they discontinued the green 18650 hound dog. I didn't have a chance to buy one. Also the new models are a good jump in price from the 18650 head and lux is cut in half (old one was rated at 90k)

Who here edc's a 61 hot other than me. Also can't seem to see the hot on his website anymore.

It turns out that a lumens factory EO-9 bulb fits in a malkoff head, so I popped it in the md3 and away we go. Yet more points to the md3's versatility. It wouldn't work if the retaining ring was tightened all the way so I had to back it off a little. The hi/low switch didn't add any extra functionality.

The lens didn't seem to like the bulb so much. If I do this again I'll need a glass lens, but good thing I have spares. This was fun but it's back to the m91bn hi/low crenelated head for work tomorrow.

M31NLL. I love it.
Pulls about 1.2A at 1.2V. Super pleasant tint.
Any idea on what it actually is? Pull at 1.2V would suggest it's not Oveready run.
