I've been looking high and low for the "perfect" tint. I know it a matter of opinion, but I can't seem to find it. To me, its a nice warm white with a slight yellow cast. I started out not caring, then went to Cree's WC(too purple), then WG(nice but too much variance in the bin), WH(too green) and WD(still a little cool). Then I tried Seouls SWO(still cool) and SVO(almost there) tints. The SVO is close, but still a little cool depending on the placement within that bin. So then after reading all the hype about the cree 5As, I broke down and got some of those. Still nothing. Its warm for sure, but now its more in the magenta/pink category which is just as bad to me. So where is my perfect tint? Maybe a Cree 3C or Seoul SUN? I just cant find any of those. So my search continues...anyone with me?

I am with you.....

I have basically given up and just accepted the fact that I will get Seoul P4's from Mouser in whatever they have. So far the 3000K and 4000K (which I love) have been acceptable and even the 6500K ones that I use in M@g mods have a really good, bright, white appearance.

I really gave up on the Crees because of the really bluish tint the 6500K leds had. And then there were the green Fenix lights we all got a year ago or so......

I have a 3A tint Cree that you might find acceptable. It has a much better balanced white point. I have a few extras if you want to try it out.

You will not find your perfect tint. Never. It is not possible, because the moment you compare it with another LED, both of them look off. That's life.

However, the tint you describe was met in the ?V1? LuxeonIII LED, which of course doesn't interest you as it is outdated. It had a warm vanilla tint. Really good. Teh UV1J was the king ... until the Cree came and destroyed everything.

Another option is to leave the tint issue behind and go high CRI. There, the Nichia 083 High CRI has a fantastic color rendition and is relatively cool, not red-warm. But ... and of course there's always the dreaded "but" ... it can't be properly focussed, as it uses 6 dice.

The only light that uses this one is McGizmo's SunDrop producing a concentrated flood like the Zebra H30.

I think that V1 K2TFFCs and Rebels may be born one day that are even better and won't ever boarder on some of the V1s that I have that are actually a tad on the green side. Remeber Lumileds is in the process of knocking bins off of their binning process such that eventually the only bins available are going to be those that hug against the black body locus line. (something like a reduction from 15 bins to about 5 or 6 for cool white)

Actually I attribute it to Asian manufacturing standards that don't make tints a priority....unless they have a high profile customer that demands it.

Ditto on the Lux IIIs. It's the only reason I still buy them.

Cree's LR24 fixture, which they just got a lot of publicity thanks' to recent high profile government contracts, 'fudges' the issue by using two different color LEDs to get an aethestic warm.

Thats very generous of you! Its hard to tell where that really is in the spectrum, it looks to be almost the equivalent of a WJ bin cool white. What flux bin are they, and how much? Thanks!

I'd settle for somewhat perfect at this point. I have a stash of about 18 WG bin Crees, and I have one out of there that really looks nice. I think it snuck in from another bin even though they are supposed to be all the same. I know there will always be something more out there, but I'd just like more consistency and availability of the various bins.
I've been reading a lot about the high CRI lights, and I've been tempted to buy some high CRI seouls, but just never got around to it. That might be the ticket, its just their output is so low comparatively. The Lux IIIs were nice, I still have some lights with them in it, although they are on the chopping block soon...
