Hello all.

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy mod to crank up the output of an A10?

I have never modded before and would need to be able to order the parts but could probably do the work if it's not too involved?

I would like to turn up the juice to around 1.4 Amps or higher if the XR-E R2 could take it? The light would not be used for longer than 5-10 minutes at a time.

What I'm after is a show off thrower that will blast anything else in it's size class away and then some:poof:

Any help appreciated, I'm off to work in a minute and will check in when I get back.

Steve.

I have a non-G A10 that I'm going to mod sometime. I'm waiting till I can find some EZ900 XRE-R2 WH emitters to use. I'll be putting a 1.4A 4x AMC7135 driver in it but again trying to find a 3 mode, not a single or 20 or more mode circuit.

Like the A9 design, the A10's heat sinking should be very good.

cheers

Thanks Lightforce for the reply.

Where would one get this 4x AMC7135 driver?

Would this be OK for the stock XR-E R2 emitter or could I go with a higher current?

I would want very high output and would not worry about emitter life so long as I got 10 or more hours life out of it:devil:

Ta,

Steve.

I been looking at modifying an A10 XR-E R2 also.

The XR-E R2 can handle 2A with ease, just adequate heatsinking is needed. My XR-E R2 Surefire L1 by Milky at 2A did 390 real OUt the Front Lumens vs. the Tiablo A10 at 1.2A does 240ish OTF lumens.

My goal is to get the Tiablo A10 or LumaPower TurboForce at 2A for a 300~400 OTF XR-E thrower with way more then 50k lux:D

The heatsink would have to be copper and DD off an 18650 it will definitely pull 2A pretty steady.

Pill area should look similar to this when done: Unless I can find an XR-E R2 EZ900 with a reputable dealer. (not DX or Kai)

Thanks for that piccy Big C!

So direct drive it is then:naughty:

Would you have any idea how long the stock A10 (non G) heat-sinking would protect the emitter?

As I said, this would be a fun light.

ATB,

Steve.

I used mine for 5 minutes at a time, but if you hold it by the bezel/body grip the 10 minutes should be fine.

I wouldnt do this Direct Drive with aluminum heatsink or brass. I am personally bias towards copper as the end to all heat.

Some of my copper lights I hold till my hands can no longer take the heat.

Thanks,

So I take it, it is a case of removing the driver in my A10 and soldering the emitter terminals directly to the battery + and - via a suitable method?

Stuffing any copper where it will fit to help the heat dissipation can only help?

Steve.

Have you been into the guts of a Tiablo A10 before? It is not the average driver board change like other lights. You have to auger it out in pieces.

OK, so I started the mod.

I then realized I have no metalworking skills.

I am sending off the part to a pal of mine who has a lathe and knows how to use it!

I will ask him to bore out the tube and then machine a copper or brass slug to fit. The rest I will be able to do and I have also ordered some thermal paste to slosh around!

I did manage to get the driver out and this is how it looks after my attempt at boring with a wobbly pillar drill ...

Well I will update this project when I get the parts back.

Just a quick question on thermal stuff.

I have ordered some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste for between the torch body and the heat-sink but i would like to know what to use to stick the chip to the heat-sink?

After searching I am none the wiser with all the different products what with pastes, epoxies, tapes etc..?

Would Arctic Silva Alumina adhesive be OK? Am I after something that won't conduct between the chip and heat-sink?

As you can see, I'm new to this. Also if this thread needs moving to another section then thats cool? Just realized there is a modding section!

Thanks,

Steve.
