UF 501 or 502 body for host?

UF WF-501's and 502's are so cheap at DX that I've just bought more of them as I tried different P60 drop-ins, so now I'm finding myself with P60 drop-in's (mostly R-2's) stacking up. I'd like to use them.

I really like the size and ergonomics of the 501/502 platform, but DX doesn't seem to sell just the shell for some reason.

Anyone know where I can get 501/502 shells (complete bodies) only? I'd be open to other brands, but if the cost gets to be more than about 10 bucks it's not worth it, since the whole flashlight can be had for about $13!

Or do you guys just toss your extra drop-ins in a drawer and forget them?

The other option is to get a 501b/502b/503b with the incan module and just drop in your LED. These lights are usually 9-$15, and the 7.4V-15W chinese Xenon drop in is pretty good too.

Thanks for the tip - I guess these are better-quality than the Ultrafires (that's a question ... LOL).

At 20 buckaroos + shipping, though, I could pretty much just get two R2 UF's from DX and toss the drop-ins!

Hi Mike TX

You can get this forom DX for $9.90

Thanks, how2. This is a better solution, and I might just go this route. I'm about to have 3 new P60's with R2's sitting around orphaned, and I need some bodies to put them in!

Funny thing - I always think of the module with reflector, pill and driver/emitter as being the bulk of the price, but I guess these tubes cost a few bucks to manufacture, too.

Yes, the solaorforce hosts are better overall quality and reliability than any of the clone-fire lights.

Yes, but when you factor in the DX failure rate and lengthy (but good) RMA procedure, you really do not end up saving that much. IMHO you are better off spending a little more and getting a lot more in return (in terms of reliability and retailer warranty).

But since you are looking at DX, you should also be aware that QCG sells hosts too.
