Hey guys,

Just after some advice on these two 500 (claimed) lumens flashlights.
They both seem pretty much the same but I am interested in build quality and runtime for the two.

Anyone own one or both of these lights? Whats your opinion of them after using them for a while?

Cheers,

Robbie

I had the same inquiry a few months back, as both lights are very intruiging.
I found ALOT of answers using the search feature. I do not mean to sound like a "Debbie Downer" lol.

Robbie, I have a Scorpion R500, nice light for low money. I would call it a light duty light, not a rough duty light. There is a very long thread here (10 pages) which details the mainly bulb and occasional battery problems they have. Very bright for the money, just not very durable.

I ordered the Ultrafire just a couple of days ago, mainly because I already have a charger and 18650 so it a much cheaper option for a very similar light. Replacement bulbs are only $6,- And this way I'll avoid the battery issues some people have with the GP. Output, construction, durability and looks are pretty similar according to reviews afaik.

Note: the GP lamp assembly also fits the Ultrafire body.... see http://www.lightreviews.info/uf_wf-500l/review_r.html

I have the WF-500 and I'm very happy with it. It is better built than most Ultrafires, O-rings where they should be and a forward tailswitch.

I had a stash of very good 18650s and a charger so this light runs pretty much for free.

The prices on dealextreme are very low; $31 light, $6 spare bulb.

Runtime on 2 18650s should be about 40 minutes.

It can also use 3 cr123s or 2 18500 cells (it has a removable part of the body tube). Runtime will be shorter than with 18650s though.

Sorry to bump this, but does the WF-500 put out more light with 3 cr123's than it does with two 18650's? What about 3 RCR123's, or would that toast the bulb? :)

2x18650 would be the brightest, 3xCR123s would be noticably dimmer, and would probably drain cells in about 15 minutes, You'd probably run CR123s into thermal shutdown if you ran it longer than 5-10 minutes at a time. 3xRCR123 would either shut down the cell immediately if it were protected, or if unprotected, they might very well deliver enough power fresh off the charger to pop the bulb (most likely), if for some strange reason the bulb did survive on 3xRCR123s (due to severe voltage sag) then the cells would be destroyed within a couple cycles. They can't handle that kind of load.

I have the ultrafire. Very nice light. Very bright and decent runtime. Huge throw decent flood etc... It's machined well and pretty durable but I don't really abuse it.

Definitely worth it for the money.

Yeah, it looks tough, but I don't think I'd want to abuse it knowing it's not up to Surefire specs in the construction and material department. :) Mine could use a little grease or something on the threads. I don't have much experience maintaining higher powered incans. What is recommended as lube for the threads and o-rings on a light like this that could get hot?
