What are my flashlight options?

One of the few things I like as much as flashlights are multi-tools (of which I also seem to have too many. ;)) I usually EDC one of each. As such, I purchased a NiteIze Multi Pock-it (seen here: http://www.niteize.com/productdetail.php?category_id=28&product_id=118) to hold my phone, a multi-tool and a flashlight. My flip phone and Leatherman Juice fit in nicely. I then put my MM (with TLE-5 drop-in) in it but, as you can see from the photo, it is kind of a long fit. So I decided that, perhaps, a 1 cell light is the answer as it would also be lighter. I would like to stay with a 1AA as a 123 would be too fat and a 1AAA would probably (am I wrong?) have less runtime or lumens than a 1AA. So in the 1AA department, what is out there that is good? I prefer output over runtime as I can always access extra batteries.

As a side note.... I would not be against a different 2AA light if it was noticably shorter than a 2AA MM.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you want to start well, the Fenix L1D-CE is a good choice for a AA light. The L2D-Rebel 100 does not have the big head of the Minimag so it might seem more balanced. The L1Tv2 is a pretty bright AA light, the L2T v2 is a longer 2AA powered light about the same size as the L2D-CE. I'm afraid both lights I've recommended might will fall out of that hoister due to their full tube shape. If you want output, maybe a 14500 3.6v lithium ion powered multi-mode light might be better.

You couldn't go wrong with the Fenix products. I have the L2D-CE (the 2xAA version of the L1D-CE) and I love it.

Just as another option, here are the very newly released (actually being released in a few weeks) JetBeam products:

For something economical, but very nice, you could go with the new C-LE. I have the older version of that light and I have EDCed it everyday since I got it 6 months ago. A very nice little light.

For maximum performance from a 1xAA light, with about double the output of the C-LE (when using a lithium-ion rechargeable battery), go with the JET-I MK.II R. Of course, it's also twice the price of the C-LE.

One point to consider, these are new releases, which means there are no reviews yet, however, they are updated versions of older products (except the Jet II), so you should be relatively safe.

Finally, here is one more for you to check out:

Happy hunting.
