What happened to the new Surefire L5?

Wasn't it supposed to be out long ago?

The Surefire website still indicates that the L5 is only 100 lumens. I thought it was supposed to be up to 120 lumens by now?

I think the new 1 is out with the KL5A head...i think it has a cree running at same brightness but for longer runtime...or i could be wrong

The KL5A is like a temporary product to fill a gap in their range.
Whether its output is 120 lumen or 100 lumens (although I'm under the impression it was same output as the KL5 but with longer runtime) - the point is that its not a new product - just an update to have something available.

I guess that for some the need to have or to know that an output is 120 rather than 100 is important. Each to their own. I'm not sure the SureFire L5 (KL5A) is the most appropriate flashlight to build such a foundation on though.

I do have a KL5A and have to say it is a very impressive light. Brighter than my U2s and a perfect beam. I have no idea on runtime though.

But ... outside, for everything that is not close illumination, it gets eaten by the E2DL :D ... as the KL5A looses light in the spill whereas the E2DL delivers right on target.
However, it couold well be that the E2DL is driven harder. I dunno

The KX5 was going to be 120 lumens, so that may be what you're thinking of, but the KX5 faded away being put onto "indefinite hold" after SHOT Show 2007. The KL5A a different product. The visible difference between 100 and 120 lumens would be very negligible indeed.

The visible difference between 100 and 120 lumens would be very negligible indeed.
And to make things worse the beams of the KL5 and KL5A have different profiles further confusing the ability to recognise a small difference in output between the two. Throw in some tint difference and I very much doubt 120 vs 100 is a visible difference.

I don't care about 100 or 120. However, I am gald to know that there is a more efficient LED in there ... increasing output and prolonging runtime. That is good, and the new head is a joy.

The old one claimed 100 lumen for one hour...the new one claims 100 lumen for 5 hours...big differance.
