Hey all,

I've done similar threads on other forums and they've always been fun and have been well received so I figured I would try it here.

What I want to know is "what have you done this week LED light-wise?"

What LED lights have you bought?

What batteries have your bought for your LED lights?

Have you modded your LED lights? What did you do?

How are you using your LED Lights? How have you used them this week?

Let's hear about everything and anything you've done this week with your LED lights, list the lights, get creative, let's hear it..........

This week I've been bad and spent way too much money and have taken possession of a Quark 123 Regular, Quark 123 Mini, RA Clicky 170 Exec and have on order a Liteflux LF3XT.

I've been carrying (EDC) the RA and love it. I've been running my simple tests for throw and illumination (dark room, white ceiling, see which one is brighter) and just general playing around with these lights and seeing how they compare to others that I have.

It's been a good fun filled enlightening week.:)

What say you? What have you done?

We installed House Numbers (street address) on a post, visible from the Road.

These digits are of the "Retro-Reflective" variety.

So, last night, i just HAD to go out and verify that they operate properly.

:D

Used my 47s Quark MiNi AA titanium, with Q3-5A3 emitter.

Low mode worked OK.

Medium mode worked GREAT !

No need to try High mode.

I bought my first Surefire. I couldn't pass up a local deal on Ebay for a G2L unopened in original packaging. My expectations were blown away by this sub-$60 light. My pelican and streamlights have quickly been demoted to backup lights :twothumbs

What LED lights have you bought?

  • Shiningbeam L-Mini with turbo head.
  • Zebralight SC30W.
  • 4 Sevens Quark Mini 123.
What batteries have your bought for your LED lights?

  • None. Pretty well stocked up already.
Have you modded your LED lights? What did you do?

  • Swapped a warm emitter into my Lumapower Mentor 2C.
  • Pulled apart my Regallight EDC single AA cell light and removed their horrible driver. Not sure what I'll put back in it. Maybe an MC-E with a Li-Ion only driver.
How are you using your LED Lights? How have you used them this week?

  • Dog walking- Jet II IBS, L-Mini Turbo, and Raidfire Spear.
  • Late night reading- Zebralight H501W and SC30W.
  • Blinding the hidden camera in my office elevator- ITP A3 EOS keychain light.

I went to my local 4sevens dealer (yes there is one in brisbane for those who live in SEQ, CPF member discounts too) and bought a Fenix E20 and Nitecore D20. Both lovely lights and have secured my new found fondness of smaller lights. I don't really like small lights as they're not as easy to hold, but these are great and very comfortable in the hand. Love the super-low low on the D20 and I love the simple on/off of the E20.

Went camping last night and showed a mate the E20. He looked at it with the usual 'that's a cute little light' then I pointed it to some trees about 50 metres away and he just went "WOW! Is that an LED?". YES!!

Then I pulled out the TK40. KA-BOOM!!

Used my Aleph McClicky mule to light up the insides of my pellet stove while changing out the blower motor and fans. Ran for 45 minutes on medium without breaking a sweat. :D

Just bought a SST-90, heatsink and new teflon wiring and now I'm wating of this and a driver for the SST-90 ;).

Mate sorry to borrow this thread; just out of curiosity - do you have the details to that Brisbane shop available perhaps? Going there for hol's and would love to pop in and have a look.

Cheers.

No buys, but I needed my Zebralight H501w to check damages on our car at night (girlfriend scratched it, of course) and remove scratches. It was very useful.

This is my first post and wish to say hello to all. While running late at night I used me Surefire M4 to light up a surly looking character lurking in the shadows. He disappeared rather quickly and no other action was needed.

This week I bought a Fenix TK11, received a Solarforce L2 host, and I went caving with the Fenix. It came through the whole thing just fine and considering I was underground for around 4 hours, climbing, crawling through squeezes and water (and sometimes squeezes WITH water!) I was impressed with how durable the TK11 was for the cost of the light. It was on a lanyard around my wrist, or it it's holster on my belt during the trip.

Fun times!

In washing off the mud from the Fenix after getting home I found absolutely no water/mud ingress and the only sign that the light had been used for caving was a couple of tiny places on the tips of the knurling where the anodising had come off.

I also borrowed a Petzl LED duo headlamp for the trip which worked just fine although it's a low-tech light by today's standards.

What LED lights have you bought?
Big week for me. I pre-ordered a Xeno Cube and dipped my toe in both models of the Icon series, Modus and Rogue (didn't like Modus, though I'm a big fan of TIR beam profiles, not so in this case).
What batteries have your bought for your LED lights?
Again, a big week for me. Got some more RCR123's from Andrew Wan as well as my first two 14500's. I'm excited for those guys to come since they're my first 14500's.
Have you modded your LED lights? What did you do?
Aside from lining the inside of a surefire diffuser to fit on the end of my RA Clicky, no modding. Wait, I did play around a bit with paracord and my DEFT. I put a double constrictor knot around the handle and it held remarkably well! In the end, I opted instead for tying paracord around the loops of the chalk bag I use to carry it around instead.

How are you using your LED Lights? How have you used them this week?
I walked around with my DEFT FTP and my Dereelight DBS looking for lakes in my area (south Florida). I'd shine the lights at the houses across the lake to see which ones were brighter. It was pretty fun, I've got to say. I was also driving around shining the DEFT at far off air control towers when my mom said "could you shine that light on this paper so I can read the gate where we're supposed to go?" I told her
"It would blind you at this distance, mom. Here, try this." and turned on the reading light. It prompted a conversation about the suitability of different lights for different tasks. I whipped out my Lunasol 20 and showed her how nice the low beam was for reading in a car at night and she oohed and awed appropriately (for a mom, that is).

bought a new jetbeam and used my preon for 9 hours on high(3 sets of batterys) while looking for a waveguide pressure leak.

I used my Zebralight and RoomSweeper to remove/modify/replace four chemical storage tanks on a semiconductor processing tool that may be used to improve tomorrow's LED and driver technology.

What LED lights have you bought?

Surefire LX2! My wife surprised me on Friday when we stopped by the local gunshop to browse and they had a new LX2 on the rack, and she says go look around the gun room. When she comes to find me she has the LX2 bagged up and big smile on her face! Did I mention I love my wife!!:D

What batteries have your bought for your LED lights?

She also picked me up two dozen SF primaries while we were there!:D

Have you modded your LED lights? What did you do?

No mods, I tend to break things.:shakehead

How are you using your LED Lights? How have you used them this week?

Been carrying my SF D2/Nailbender SST-50 as my EDC face blaster, used it blind a co worker being picky about a junk piece of furniture that had a blemish. I asked him after he was blinded if he still saw anything. His answer, 'Just a big white spot!!!'

Otherwise, just used them for mundane everyday tasks, although I used my C2/Malkoff M60 to illuminate a fox heading in to eat some more of the cat's food last week. He was 'illiminated'.

I tested XP-Gs and XP-Es in a LF3XT to determine mounting distances for optimal throw.

I haven't bought anything new lately in terms of new LED lights, but I did buy my first tube of Nyogel grease this week and I did some routine maintenance with it on the O rings and threads of all my LED lights this past weekend. It works great! The threads are nice and smooth again, especially on my Fenix TK40.

I used my TK40 this past week to scare some cats out of the front yard of my girlfriend's place. The last thing she wants is more cat poopie out there!

What LED lights have you bought?

  • Nothing new this week! :(
What batteries have your bought for your LED lights?

  • Not bought any, but I gave the AAA and AA Ni-Mh's from my EDC lights (A3 Eos and K-106) a charge
Have you modded your LED lights? What did you do?

  • Tweaked the battery spring and retightened the pill in the head of the K-106 to stop flicker/mode swapping
How are you using your LED Lights? How have you used them this week?

  • Used the K-106 whilst working on a substation at night to isolate a faulty circuit breaker and investigate the fault
  • Used the A3 Eos for finding stuff in the boot (trunk) of my car :)
