What is without doubt the shortest AA and AAA torch available ?

I have an ITP A3 torch on each of my two keyrings and I also EDC an ITP A2 clipped into a pocket.

In the under $50 price range , are there any shorter torches available ... Multi-mode would be essential but no SOS or strobe allowed ... A simple high and low power would be OK or even a continuously variable ... Ideally the high should be at least 60 lumens ... The option of keychain and pocket clip is essential.

Only a single AA or AAA Eneloop will be used ... None of those dumpy 123 torches please ... I have an ITP A1 and it just doesn't feel right in my hand ... Personal preference.

There is nothing wrong with my ITP A2's and A3's but I was just wondering if there was something on the market that could tempt me to spend a little more money ... The alternative is to let "Her" waste more money on food , handbags and shoes (not necessarily in that order).

I doubt whether there are any shorter torches than the A2 and A3 that are also multi-mode , but I just need to know.

If shortness is important to you, then you're looking for twisty flashlights.
Nitecore, Quark & Fenix all make nice 1xAA and 1xAAA (except Nitecore doesn't make a 1xAAA if remember correctly) that would fit in the criteria. They DO have strobe and sos blinking stuff, but those modes should be out ot the way enough for people -like me- who don't really want them.

The ITPs will be hard to beat. I can't think of any shorter AA. Only two shorter AAAs come to mind: The Killer 1xAAA (seen in HK's comparison photos) and a more reasonably priced low-output light from an old-line maker whose name escapes me.

I'm thinking the Maratac AAA will be slightly shorter than your ITP A3. It checks in at 6.7 cm. and is the shortest AAA that I have.

From my research the ITP A2 is 75.5mm

If so, the Zebralight H50 Q5 is 66mm and certainly shorter, AA and multi level with no Strobe.

The newer H501 is 71.2mm also shorter than the ITP.

Just edged out are:

The Maratac AA is 76mm. (Close but no cigar)
The Quark Mini AA is 79mm.
The Fenix LD15 is 80mm.
The Nitecore EZAA is 85mm.

The Nextorch K1 is the smallest of the AAA but no use as it is single mode.

Best bet for your consideration and my next purchase is the new Jetbeam BK135A but snag is it is longer but nice and slim and similar to my EZAA.

That's the one I couldn't think of. I guess it's wasn't a big-name brand, after all.

Indeed, at 18mm, the BK135-like several of the lights mentioned above--is within 0.5mm of the thinnest AA bodies out there. (Peak's AAs are 17.8mm.) I favor slimness, but the OP favors short length.

I'm surprised that the Quark Mini is just 1mm shorter than the Fenix LD15. It looks about 3mm shorter here.

Until this thread prompted me to look I hadn't realized that while the Fenix LD15 is a few mm longer it has a smaller diameter than the Quark MiNi AA.

edit:

Am doing some early Christmas shopping myself and am torn between buying an AAA keychain specific light like the E01/LD01 and comparables or a small AA sized light like the LD15 or Nitecore or Quark equivalents.

I can see my sons leaving their AA or AAA sized light in their school pack with a house key on it -- either size format could work for them so I tend to lean to the AA size for power and runtime advantages, plus these are a little larger and hopefully not lost by them! However picking a light for my wife is more challenging... she doesn't always carry a purse but always takes keys when she ditches the purse in favour of a backpack or bike panniers for her commute to work. Maybe I should be getting her a Preon Revo or LD01 instead.

How does the K1's height compare to the single mode A3 (shorter than the "upgraded version")?

I have no idea as I own only the 3 mode version as per my pic,the K1 claims to be probably the smallest AAA cell in the world at the moment. The K2 also claims to be probably the smallest AA cell.

ITP A2 is 75.5mm. Zebralight sc51 is 80mm but great UI and near 200 lumens on a single AA eneloop and will be released any day now. See selfbuilts review.

The H50 can't be attached to a keyring.

Well, not specifically, but I'm a great believer in a paracord constrictor knot and a McGizmo gate snap. That's how I carry my ARC6 with the non guarded sleeve and so far no failures. But to the letter of the OP, you are right. I stand corrected.

Now I'm going out into the garden to eat worms.

So long ago...........

Well , it looks as though the ITP A2 and A3 are unfortunately the best yet ... Not the only ones , but the best for my purposes.

Also looks like my Wife will now be squandering my money again on non-essentials like food.

I suppose there just has to be some absolute "Best Buys" here ... Just a shame that I already have them.

I really thought that I could get some help here in finding something better than the ITP's ... I even put my $50 price limit at about double the cost of the ITP's , to no avail.

I don't feel the need to go over my $50 budget , but are there any in the "up to $75" or even the "up to $100" range ? ... They would have to be exceptional for me to justify this level of expenditure.

p.s. I don't want to tie a bit of string to the torch either.

Not sure about the "without a doubt" part, but I think the shortest would likely be a Peak AAA pocket body, wide beam Eiger, which is shown here next to an Arc AAA:

+1 - Measured my Peak Eiger AAA with tail-stand body & SS #6 Head - 2.8125 inches or 71.437 mm in off postion.
