What LED would this be

The good news here is that I have a 1xAAA MxPower LED torch and the whole front part actually unscrews off which would allow for mods (I hope ). Anyhow I took the front of and printed on the front of the green circuit board was written mxp-78, so if this makes sense would you know what type of LED that is.

There might be some here who know that light - not sure - but if you can post a pic of the LED I could probably tell you and if not I know there are lots of people here who could.
Actually after doing a little googling it seems like a Brazilian light and may have a Seoul SSC LED but at this point I'm just guessing based on some fairly thin evidence. Any Pics would help a lot. Where did you get the light?

Ok thanks for that. Here's some info on this torch:

Brand: MX Power 1w Super Bright
Batt: 1x AAA ( I'm using a Eneloop)
Switch: Twist type

Now I could be wron here but I think the LED is a Nichia.

in that case its probably just a lux1 or maybe a nichia jupiter but unlikely as they are usualy advertised as 1/2watt

Ummm -- yes 1 watt or advertised as 1 watt then it's probably a Nichia. If it's fairly new Nichia is more likely but if it's a couple or more years old I suppose it could be a 1 watt Luxeon. Actually that MX Power is sounding more familiar now - like some from DX I think? If it was say a $5 to $10 light than it's even more likely Nichia 0.5 watt that they are calling 1 watt. Maybe it's being driven harder.

http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=2756 would it happen to be this light? if so, usually when they refer to '1w common led bulb' they're referring to a lux1.
edit: the picture is hard to tell but it might be a nichia after all... it doesn't really look like a lux1...

Yes thats definately the one and also its quite a new torch, say 1 month if not bit more.

Now also when I bought it there was another one there identical but had written on it 1w Nichia Bulb Made in Japan or something to that description.

Would like to know though if this baby can be modded ?

Thank you

Is it possible to overpower this LED (i.e Nichia) and instead of using a 1xAAA Eneloop, I would like to try a 1xAAA Lithium Ion Rechargeable, though not sure if you can AAA's in LiIoN rechargeables, though I do know they are availabel in AA format.

An AAA sized Li-ion is called the 10440. Be careful because none of them have a protection circuit.

I'm not sure if the LED or the circuit can handle the higher voltage.

From the pictures, it doesn't look like a Nichia Jupiter. Looks like a Lux I.

When you say protection circuit I'm assuming here your referring to the battery ?

Yes, the 10440 cell has no protection circuit, and should be used cautiously by people experienced with Li-Ion cells. Additionally, using one in an unmodded light such as yours would probably burn out the existing circuitry, and the light would then be 10440 only, and not able to use AAA again.

Ok, than better I leave it as is as I've never done a mod to a torch as yet and dont want to ruin anything, so probably best I leave it as is and keep using the Eneloops in it.

Thanks for your help.
