Hi, I have been searching high and low to try and get an aluminum mag reflector so that I can build a rop.

I plan on using the stock switch so I assume that I need to purchase a cammed reflector, problem is I can't find them anywhere.

Anyone know where I can get one, or when more will be produced by some of the fine members of this forum?

Thanks

Hi Greg -

You'll find cammed and camless reflectors available. The camless tend to be cheaper, although Fivemega makes a reflector with a removable cam which is interesting.

There are 3 main players:
- modamag / sandwiche shoppe
- Fivemega
- Litho123 / Light-edge

Each person works independently using different suppliers, different parabola shapes, different coatings, etc.

Pay particular attention to the ream (bulb opening) of whichever reflector you decide upon. Some will fit only the ROP-low. Other reflectors (like mine) will fit both the ROP-low & ROP-hi bulbs.

Focus with a camless reflector is a little more cumbersome via focus shims. Or you can perform a simple mod to the bulb pedestal to make the bulb be stationary - this will allow the focus to work like a mini-mag.

Good luck with your quest.

I didn't have much luck finding cammed reflectors in stock at any online stores (found some camless). I really wanted to still have the focus ability and didn't want to use shims, so ended up getting a Fivemega cammed reflector (with removable cam) through the B/S/T forum and am happy with it. One thing to note as Litho mentioned is that not all bulbs will fit in it, the ROP bulb fits but I also have a TerraLux LED drop in that didn't fit, not sure about what other incans might not fit. I ended up reaming out the hole to make it big enough for the LED, and the reflector still works fine with my ROP too.
