Which Single MC-E is the BEST THROWER???

Of all the current commercially manufactured single MC-E flashlights (still available and still being manufactured - no unavailable models please) which is the best thrower? Please - no drop-ins with hosts or custom or modified flashlights. I've seen threads discussing some but not all of the brands so I'm not sure which is really the best if throw is the only consideration.

I'm aware that MC-E is not necessarily the best bin for throw...nevertheless I'm curious.

In my experience after owning several MC-E lights, the JetBeam M1X is the king of the MC-E hill as far as throw goes. It is also the best all around MC-E light I have ever had as well and I would highly recommend it.

MC-E isn't a bin, just as an FYI, it's a model. Bins refer to same models, different production runs or bins. MC-E's are four separate dies and by definition, are all off center so it's hard to focus.

Now for your question: I only have two models that use MC-E's. The first is a DBS that was designed for throw and I put an MC-E pill into it (designed by Dereelight themselves). The second is Elektrolumens' EDC-MCE. They really shouldn't be compared since the DBS really was originally designed for throw and the EDC-MCE was really designed to put out all the light that's available for the emitter (direct drive). Between these two, the DBS out throws it by far, but again MC-E's aren't your best choice for throw, but it seems like you already know that. I just wanted to point out the physical limitations, in case you weren't aware. With that in mind, if someone wanted to design a reflector to specifically focus each of the four dies, I imagine they'd have to be precise with their thread measurements on the pill to assure that it would screw into the reflector exactly the same way each time. Either that or make sure the reflector and the emitter were fit together in the optimal position at the factory.

Have you seen one compared to the Eagletac M2(whatever) MC-E model?

The new SST's should be better throwers than the MC-E's with similar high over all output right?

MG RX1 has great throw. Lights up a forest road +250f. I picked up warm and cool versions (to mod), great throw.

I had an EagleTac M2C4 with the Seoul P7 in it. The output was pretty impressive but definitely more flood and less throw than the M1X and I really don't like the control ring on the M2C4. At one point I owned a JetBeam M1X, Fenix TK40, EagleTac M2C4, and Olight M30 at the same time. Out of them all, the JetBeam while it does have a bit of a doughnut in the beam was the best and the only light out of the bunch I would buy again. It it the best designed, built, and has the best UI out of all of them. I'm really hoping they put an SST-50 in the next gen M1X, that would be one of the few things that would make this phenomenal light even better.

Hope this helps.

M1X,,,, check out beam shots

with SST's around, MC-E is starting to become obsolete.

as with best thrower with MC-E, by all accounts, its probably the Jetbeam M1X

I don't know why. Every review of every sst-50 I've read shows them to be much dimmer than flashlights with MC-E. The model may have the potential to outdo an MC-E but no manufacturer has tapped it yet.

well on paper, the SSTs potential is definitely higher.
As for the reviews suggesting otherwise, the sample reviews available so far is still very small, especially ones with overall output data comparing across lights with SST and MC-E.
I think its fair to said till now that overall output by with lights SST and MC-E are roughly comparable. But one thing the SST is winning for sure is its fuller beam profile.

If you check the beamshots of. Sst-50 compared to mc-e in several threads here the two are not close. Mc-e blows sst-50 away.

The M1X is an outstanding thrower and the donut hole is not really noticeable in everyday use. Just put my dogs out in the field behind the house and checked the treeline for coyotes - about 125 yards out. M1X does a fine job illuminating a large section of the woods. Didn't perceive the donut hole at all.

judging overall output via beam shots can be extremely deceiving, especially when comparing ones with a different beam profile which is determined by the reflector's surface, area, depth etc. total output is also affected by lens quality, battery quality, regulated output etc etc. IMO, its next to impossible to tell an emitter's quality/potential based upon beam shots.

so which threads are you referring to? i wanna have a look a well =)

thank you.
