Hi all,

Recently found this great/interesting forum and been getting lots of information from it. This is my first post so please don't be too harsh :candle:

I am looking to buy a thrower to add to my newly started flashlight collection. I currently have Fenix P3D, L2D CE, L0D, Regalight WT1 (on the way) and will be looking at the Fenix TK10 (or 11, whatever it is)

For the throwers, I am only looking at ones that use CR123s.

I have read a lot of the reviews regarding these throwers on this forum and now trying to figure out the best one to get.

I have narrowed my list to -

Dereelight DBS V2 1SM Cree XR-E Q5
Tiablo A9S Q5 Bin Cree LED
LumaPower MRV Revolution

No specific use (general usage)
Range up to 50-80m (150-240ft?)
Brightest at hotspot and spill (lumens etc)
Price not really an issue

Anyway, please give me your comments about these 3 lights. I don't think there is currently a direct comparison/shootout between the three.

Advantages, Disadvantages, other info.

Also any other suggestions for throwers that you can recommend.

Any more photos around the 50m (150ft) mark would be great too.

I have all 3 lights and they are all excellent lights. If I was going to get only one(like that was going to happen:crackup:) I would get the DBS. It will have the longest throw, then the A9 followed by the MRV(we are not talking about a huge difference here). The DBS has at least 5 different pills available(new pills come out quite often), so if in the future you decide you want to use an 18650 with flat output you can order another pill(digital series) instead of a new light(Ex: A9 to A8). If a better LED comes out you just have to get a different pill(they cost ~ $30.00), you get the idea. I'd also recommend the DBS, but I have no experience with the Tiablo or the MRV. The only reason I might think about a Tiablo would be that it is lighter, but the DBS's weight isn't an issue for me. I love the way the DBS breaks down into all its pieces very easily, changing pills (light engine) and reflectors is simple, etc.

The Regalight is already a pretty darn good thrower, so I'd recommend the DBS since it is a slightly better thrower than the Tiablo.

Welcome to CPF!

Good choice. I have the same light and am very pleased with it to the point it has replaced the ROP-Lo in my pack. The ROP is brighter, but the DBS is lighter, smaller, and simply amazes me when I use it. And that's with an OP reflector!

When you get it, be patient and wait until dark to try it out for the first time. Might want to have an extra pair of shorts handy. :)
 
Hi guys,

I received my DBS V2 on Friday and it's a great light BUT......

I seem to be having a problem with it.

It's doesn't turn on on the first click/push. After clicking on/off a few times, it will work or I have to go into a routine of tightening everything. Then it will work.

But, if I put it away for 5 mins and try again, I have to do the above all over again.

Does it sound like a problem with the light or just the contacts not "connecting" and I need to give it a clean/lube etc?

It is not that I keep loosening it everytime I put it away.

BTW, I am using AW's RCR123's.

Oh, there is some rub damage on the body under the clip but that's OK i guess.

Which light engine (pill) is installed in the light? Most Dereelight light engines (pills) are for max 4.2 Volt. Use 2 x RCR123 cellls with one of those and it's history, 8.4 Volt will fry it eventually.

I just got the same answer from Dereelight support.

It's a DBS V2 w/ 1SM-1 Cree XR-E WC Q5.

I must have read it wrongly. I thought it could take RCR123 but I guess will switch to CR123's.

BTW, not fried yet. But does that mean it is damaged or something?

1SM-2(1-stage multi power) Cree XR-E Q5 Pill (6V max)

      • Input Range: 3~6V
      • Output Range: 1A
      • Battery Type: 1x18650, CR123A's, RCR123's
Correct??

Newbies will have to learn all the little things :thinking:

Should be correct since Dereelight mentions RCR123 on that pill.
 
Is that a typo? That one is only to 6v input.

You need the ~16v input pill to use 2xRCR123 (8.4v).

EDIT: In fact it looks like you have copied and pasted two different descriptions, 1SM-1 is to 6v and 1SM-2 is to 16v, your description seems to be a mix of both. But still you need the 16v input pill.
