What sort of LED does the Surefire L1 use?

I've got an E2L and an L4, but the different colors of the L1 are interesting...

I know the E2L uses a 3w luxeon, and the L4 a 5w luxeon - but does the L1 use a standard LED? or is it a 1w luxeon or some other high-flux LED?

LuxIII - the differences in "color" you are seeing are because of different "bin codes" (different shades) typical of Luxeon LEDs.

Welcome to CPF aryntha!

Perhaps you are referring to the different colour light output options?
Red, Blue & Green as well as white light.

The white light version is a LuxeonIII. I assume the red, blue and green versions are too.

Thanks and -- damn, now I'm going to have to get all 4. :\

... And yes, I thought I was crazy until I came to this board.... Well, probably still am, but at least in company of the same :)

The earlier L1s used LuxI emitters. If the head looks like a KL1 then it should be a LuxIII.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Al, I hadn't interpreted the question that way.

Aryntha, you're in good  company here.

Well, ordered one of the red L1's to start... Heard there were some problems with misaligned optics but we'll see how this goes...

I -do- wish Surefire offered the other models in different colors as well... And I hear there's a UV one, but normal folks can't get them
