Confused on Optronics Spotlight

I'm confused on the term used by Optronics int he description of their Nightblaster remote control spotlight where they say it is a cold cathode area light. It's name is a spotlight and then they say it is an area light. Do any of you have any experience with this or similar light? I need a remote control spotlight for night boating so I don't run into buoys. I need both hands for steering and throttle so a handheld won't work and I like the fact that this one will stick with suction and be remote controlled so I can have it out front. I believe this light combines a 500,000 CP sealed beam halogen spotlight with a Cold Cathode (flourescent) area light on the backside of the housing. The area light is intended to provide low level illumination on the boat deck. The halogen draws 4.8A, the cold cathode light draws 1/4A.
