L2T Becomes Single Stage w/dying Batteries?

Last night, I noticed that my L2T high mode wasn't working. I put in brand new alkalines and high/low mode worked again. Is this normal, that high mode goes away because perhaps the battery cannot put out the needed current? :)

This happens with my L2T aswell. I think you assumption is correct about the batteries not being able to supply enough juice to the LED.

My SL Argo HP did the same thing after it had been accidentally activated in storage. It was pretty much a toss-up as to whether high had ANY difference between low.

I think once the batteries drop to a certain point, it automatically goes into low mode. I generally use my L2T on high only, so when it drops to low, I take the batteries out right away for recharging so as not to discharge them too much and damage them.

I put some old alkalines I found while cleaning out a bag in my L2T a couple of hours ago and high mode would not activate. I put the batteries on the multimeter and they showed just over 1.3V.
