I'm sick, sick, sick, sick, sick to death of what the internet has become, just another click opportunity wtih no honest search results anymore. Google used to be pretty good, but i've been noticing up to 70 or 80 sponsored results and then nothing pergaining to my original search, I've done queries on "non sponsored search "resluts and get O results. Are there any honest search engines left, or how does one eliminate the sponsred results from the crummy lists. They take any combination of words and phrase it into simply another buying opportunity.
It seems as if every conceivable word has been linked to some product or another and there doesn't seem to be any way around it. Every query I do on this topic trying to find real answers ends up with just some more click opportunities, I am sick, sick, sick, sick, to death these bogus results, anyone else feel like me?

Yes, I'm also sick to death of this happening. You're right-it seems that many times I'll search for information on something. Search results will appear to give me exactly what I'm looking for. However, when I click on the link it takes me to some vendor's website with absolutely nothing related to what I searched for but with a lot of consumer crap they're trying to sell. How could this be? Do all these vendors have parts of their website where they have every word in the dictionary so that Google thinks it finds what you're looking for there? And on a semi off-topic note, I'm just sick to death of people trying to sell me things I have no need of, and also capitalism in general. I want freedom from excessive advertising. No more spam, junk mail, telemarketing, ads on public transportation, popups, or ad banners plus very limited, infrequent commercial breaks on TV. Keep the advertising mostly to printed ads in newspapers and vendors websites. Maybe have a specific search engine directly solely to finding things you're interested in buying and regular search engines to find other information.

Advertising is one reason I buy a lot of stuff on eBay now. At least if I get something from an eBay vendor I know I won't be bombarded by junk mail from them for the next few years. Speaking of that, I'm also sick of information sharing where if I order from one mail-order place I get catalogs from ten other places selling things remotely related to the products I ordered. You should automatically always be opted out of information sharing by law unless you request otherwise in writing, not the other way around.

Wow when I read the "orginal title" "every search just a purchasing opportunity"I thought you meant every time you do a search on cpf its a purchasing opportunity. Everytime I use the search button here I find something else I want to purchase.

As for you main topic. I don't really have an issue with it. Search engines with google at the forefront are constantly tring to deal with the ever changing technology. People will continually come up with ways to trick search engines an search engines will always be one step behind. Reminds me of 2 years ago. Virtually half the pages on the net seemed to have spyware. Thats not near as big an issue now. 5 years ago half the searches always ended up with some porn popups. Not a big deal anymore. Now you have to search for this crap to get it.

Advertizing is one reason I buy a ton of stuff available on eBay from other vendors who sell it at a lower cost with faster shipping and better return policies.

I make most of my purchases on the Internet and the vast majority allow you to opt out of advertizing.

(below is my search query in Italics)
"non sponsored search engines"

(below is the only result I got)

"Pay-Per-Sale or Pay-Per-Visitor! (Cost to Advertiser: $ 0.12 ) Since 1996, SpiderBait has used expertise to place websites in non-sponsored search engines."

apparently SpiderBait can put your sponsored link in a non sponsored search engine

this is what the internet has become, these assholes have ruined the perfect information vehicle.

Purchasing from vendors online is fine. I do a lot of that myself. I'm mainly referring to mail order catalogs where if you order one thing you're bombarded with all sorts of junk mail for the next few years. I remember I used to order a few things every now and then from Performance Bike Shop. I stopped because they not only sent me a new catalog practically every week (instead of one or two a year with flyers whenever they had something new) but gave my name to about ten remotely related vendors (things like hiking equipment, cycling videos, etc). I really wasn't interested in this other stuff at all. It took a few years for the flood of junk mail to stop. While I was happy with the products, prices, and service from Performance, they lost a customer for good because of their sharing policies.

Amen. Lots of links to advertisements shown in query results, i.e., false positives.

Nope. They sold your name, along with your interests.
Reselling names is *big* business and how places like "Publishers Clearing House" - where, by the way you just won 10 million dollars, make their money. Magazines are secondary but do help qualify the subject.

I knew a guy that would print labels and stick them on the cards inserted into magazines or anything else he could find that required no postage.
Did he like junk mail? Not exactly, he would print the labels with the name and address of somebody he didn't like.

I haven't hit the point yet where Google is too bad for me. I sometimes have to dig through 2 or 3 pages to get what I want but usually I find what I'm looking for in the first few hits.

I only use Wikipedia if I want to get some general information about pop culture. I trust it less than the search engines for trying to get accurate info.

I use copernic agent pro software for my searches, and so far it has been working great, It has 100's of specialized search engines. Nice little program.

I found Copernic Agent Pro with Google...first hit. ;)

I'm curious why you use it? Is it that you do a lot of searching for a professional reason? Or do you just find it worth it for your everyday searching? I don't do that much searching and don't think I could justify spending $80 on a search tool.

Try these people:

http://www.givemebackmygoogle.com/

They go through google but they add this string to your search:

-inurl:(kelkoo|bizrate|pixmania|dealtime|pricerunner|dooyoo|pricegrabber|pricewatch|resellerratings|ebay|shopbot|comparestoreprices|ciao|unbeatable|shopping|epinions|nextag|buy)
