What to do with Li-Ion Ds or Cs?

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this or not. But, apart from the D li-Ion feeler, I'd like to see what everyone's ideas are for Li-Ion D cells or C cells. The feeler has served it's purpose. There is definitely interest and I'll post updates there.
However, I'd like to ask the question here... I suppose to centralize them.
What are your plans, ideas for protected Li-Ion D and C cells.

I can see a mag modded with a Lumen factory LA right on the body of the lamp and a regulator with a high current switch.

Crees in Mags. Lots of Crees.

If you're going to put 6 leds in a hexagonal pattern... why not put a 7th right in the middle where geometry makes a perfect spot for it?

I was just talking to a LED mag modder. I hadn't even thought about it.

Incan mods are nice, but the CREE is where the action's at. I've got a couple 2C mags, I'm thinking 3/5/7 emitters, IMS of appropriate size, nice shiny UCL.. I'd like to use the maxflex or whatever it's called these days, but it's still not available. Apart from grinding down a heatsink intended for a single luxeon emitter, I dunno how I'll mount them though..
I also have a HA3 2D, but I'm still hoping I can scrounge up a 2D>6AA adapter for that. Lithium's great, but there's no beating AAs for practicality.

ETA: an email just reminded me that I have a Fraen 9° and a Ledlil 4° optic on the way.. Assuming they work out well, maybe I'll use them instead of the IMS reflectors. Anyone have practical experience with several of these optics in a mag head?

a 1 D cell light running 1 CREE XR-E(1.5A ?) with a optic with the tightest most throwy beam.

I really like the multiple options with a 2D size host:

But i really like the sound of a 1D cree light - short & sweet.
Sure sounds like we cant make up our minds on what bulb to run
